J&K Police Cop’s weapon goes off accidentally after hit by vehicle

A cop’s rifle went off accidentally after he was hit by an unknown car in the Batmaloo area of Srinagar on Wednesday, officials said.

An official said that a speeding vehicle without number plate hit & injured a PSO of a traffic officer on duty, resulting in accidental discharge of PSO’s weapon.

He said there was no damage or injury caused to anyone due to the discharge of the weapon.

“Case (has been) registered in Batmaloo PS against rash & negligent driving,” said a Traffic police official.

Well-Planned Cities Will Determine Fate Of Country: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that well-panned Indian cities will determine the fate of the country.

Addressing a post-Budget webinar on ‘Urban Planning, Development and Sanitation’, he said with India urbanising rapidly, it is important to build infrastructure that is futuristic.
“The well-planned cities of India will only determine the fate of India. When planning is better, our cities will become climate resilient and water secure,” the prime minister said.

He also listed three focus areas for urban planning and development – How to strengthen urban planning ecosystem in states, how to better utilise expertise available in private sector for urban planning and how to develop such Centres of Excellence which take urban planning to the new level.

The government has organised a series of post-budget webinars to seek ideas and suggestions for the effective implementation of the initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2023.

Jammu: Jammu police yesterday arrested two drug peddlers from R.S Pura and seized 200 grams of drugs from their possession.

As per the report, a team from Police Station Miran Sahib led by SHO Zahir Mushtaq under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Surinder Singh laid a special naka at Kirpind village in R.S Pura and intercepted a car bearing registration number JK02CM7902 which was coming from Kotli.

During checking, police team recovered 200 grams of drugs from the possession of the two persons and arrested them. The arrested persons have been identified as Sharad Khajuria s/o Harish Khajuria resident of Roop Nagar, Jammu and Kanav Gupta s/o Dharamveer Gupta resident of Lane no.2, New Plot, Jammu.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS act in Miran Sahib police station.

Further investigation of the case is still going on.

56 new sports stadiums to come up in J&K

The administration in Jammu and Kashmir plans to construct as many as 56 sports stadiums and centers in districts to tap sports potential of the youth from the region.

Barring three districts, three sports stadiums/centers will be constructed in all the remaining districts in which UT-level competitions can also be held.

The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has issued notification for the construction of a sports ground under Khelwandia District Level Centers under Sports Authority of India vide 70/KI/SKIC-Slamall-J&K/2020-21 Maharhra 08 February 2023.

Stadiums for football, hockey and gymnastics will be constructed in the Srinagar district. Cycling, Wushu and Kabaddi in Budgam, Badminton, Volleyball and Thang Ta in Ganderbal, Hockey, Football and Boxing in Bandipora, Badminton, Table Tennis and Hockey in Baramulla, Volleyball, Khokho in Anantnag, Kabaddi and Volleyball in Kulgam. Wrestling, Hockey, Table Tennis and Skating in Pulwama, Volleyball and Taekwondo in Shopian, and Football, Khokhu and Kabaddi in Kupwara.

Similarly, soft tennis, table tennis and hockey in the Jammu district, volleyball, wrestling and boxing in Samba, football and rowing in Kathua, table tennis, handball and basketball in Udhampur, and gymnastics in Reasi, Yoga, Archery, Table Tennis in Doda, Athletes, Volleyball and Thug Ta in Kishtwar, Football and Kabaddi in Ramban, Table Tennis and Wrestling in Rajouri and Football, Badminton and Volleyball in Poonch. A football ground is being constructed in Charlan Fazalabad.

The administration has invited applications from eligible athletes to be posted as Coach,/Mentor /Champion Athletics for the said Sports Stadium.

First preference will be given to those players who have represented India and are recognized by the National Sports Federation of India (NSF) in the respective sports, second preference will be given to those who have won medals in Senior National Championships or have won medals in Khelo India competitions, an official said.

The third preference will be given to the medal winner in the All India University Championship and the fourth preference will be given to the players representing the state in the Senior National Championship who are recognized by NSF and have participated in the Khelo India Games.

Jammu: In a tragic incident, a 48-year-old man who met with road accident on February 21 in the night in Industrial Area Phase -2 of Samba succumbed to injuries in DMC Hospital in Ludhiana Punjab, yesterday.

As per report, the incident took place in Samba’s industrial area on February 21, when the victim was going on his bike and got hit by a speeding Bolero car, which left him badly injured there.

After the incident the deceased laid injured on the road for a long time and was rushed to the District Hospital Samba when some locals and police saw him lying wounded on the road.

Schools reopen in Kashmir after three months of winter vacation

Kashmir Valley including this summer capital of J&K sprung to life on Wednesday as children made their way to schools after long winter vacations.

Students dressed in uniforms were seen heading to respective schools very early in the morning as the School Education Department has changed school timing in Srinagar city from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The schools also opened in winter zones of Poonch district. Hundreds of students headed to private as well as government schools in winter zones of Poonch. The session would mostly witness exams of the students.

The schools up to class 5th were ordered to observe winter vacation from December 1 to February 28, the classes from 6th to 8th from December 12 and those from 9th to 12 standard from December 19.

Widespread Light To Moderate Rain, Snow Likely In J&K Today: MeT

The weather was inclement in J&K during the last 24 hours as the MeT office said on Wednesday that widespread light to moderate rain or snow is likely to happen.
“Widespread light to moderate rain/snow is likely in J&K during the next 24 hours,” a Meteorological (MeT) department official said.
Srinagar had 6.4, Pahalgam 0.6 and Gulmarg minus 2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 8.6, Kargil minus 3.6 and Leh minus 5.6 as the minimum temperature.
Jammu had 14.2, Katra 12.5, Batote 6.8, Banihal 5.6 and Bhaderwah also 5.6 as the minimum temperature.

To carry out cleaning process of the water reservoirs at Manda, water supply to Panjtirthi, Jain Bazar, Moti Bazar, Afghana Mohalla, Dogra Hall, New Plot, Rehari, Sarwal and adjoining areas being fed from Manda will remain partially affected for next 3 to 4 days from 03-03-2023.

General public has been requested to maintain adequate storage and use the drinking water judiciously.

Price of LPG Cylinders Increased! Check New Rates Here

Petroleum and oil marketing companies increased prices of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹ 50 per cylinder and commercial LPG cylinders by ₹ 350.50 per unit on Wednesday.

The increased price will come into effect from today.
Now with the increased price, a 14.2 kg cylinder will cost ₹1103 in Delhi while a 19 kg commercial cylinder will cost ₹ 2119.50 in the national capital.

This is the second occasion when the prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been increased this year. Earlier, the prices were revised on January 1.
In case of domestic LPG cylinders, this is the first hike of the year.

Jammu: The Sheetal Nagar village of Bhoond block in Kathua district of Jammu still  preserves the centuries-old tradition of making flour through mills driven by water.

 

Speaking to the media, Mr Khemraj, said, “This Gharat ( water mill) has been running here from last 40 years and I have been operating this mill from past 15 years”.

“The mill is powered by fast- flowing water of the stream, which turns the heavy grindstone to produce flour”, he added.

“The force of the water flow drives the blades of a turbine. It rotates an axle that drives the crushing stone. The passage of water is controlled by sluice gates that allow for maintenance and control the speed of grinding stones”, he said.

“The flour which we get from this mill is healthy in nature”, he remarked.

Mr Mohd Farooq, another villager, said, “We have been coming here from a long time as this flour grinded by the mill is good for body”.

“In hinterlands we get things such as vegetables, ghee,fruits and this flour easily & naturally and we use our home produced manure in them, which makes them wholesome”, he asserted.

“Approximately 200 kilos of flour we grind in this water mill everyday”, said, Mr Khemraj.

“This mill works on water and it is cost free, it uses no electricity as it runs on water and its flour is good for health”, another local said.
