3 IPS officers from J&K allotted cadre

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) allocated cadres to three IPS probationers hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.

Two IPS officers Dwaraka Gandhi and Anjeet Singh have been allocated AGMUT cadre while Namneet Singh was allotted Bihar.

Jammu and Kashmir is now part of AGMUT cadre.

Jammu-Srinagar Highway closed due to maintenance

The Jammu- Srinagar Highway stands closed due to maintenance work at Shalgidi, officials said on Saturday.

The road was closed for vehicular traffic between Jammu and Srinagar on Friday after the administration declared March 3 and March 10 as Traffic Dry Days for carrying out maintenance and repair work on the National Highway.

“Jammu Srinagar Highway is still closed due to maintenance work is in progress at Shalgadi, it will take some time. People are advised to co-operate,” Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police said.

The highway is the lifeline of Kashmir valley and the main road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Kashmir-bound trucks laden with essentials and other vehicles pass through the highway and fruit carrying trucks from Kashmir head for rest of the country through this road.

Amid cloudy weather forecast, night temp falls in Kashmir, rises in Jammu

Amid forecast for “partly to generally cloudy” weather in next 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded a fall in Kashmir Valley and increase in Jammu on Saturday, officials said.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 6.4°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 4.2°C for the summer capital.

Jammu recorded a low of 13.2°C against 12.7°C on the previous night. It was 0.9°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.4°C (above normal by 0.9°C), Batote 9.2°C (above normal by 3.4°C), Katra 13.6°C (3.1°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 7.0°C (4.9°C above normal).

Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 2.8°C and minus 4.6°C respectively, the official added.

Regarding weather, he said it is likely to be “partly to generally cloudy” during next 24 hours with appreciable rise expected in day temperature. Clear weather is expected from March 5-12, the officials added.

 

Jammu: Huge Quantity Of Heroin, Over Rs 2 Cr Cash Recovered

In a major breakthrough in its drive against narco-terrorism, the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered seven kilograms of heroin, over Rs 2 crore cash and a pistol from the house of a notorious drug peddler along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, a senior police officer said.

Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh said a major narco-terror module has been busted in the Union Territory, adding the search operation is still going on.

The recovery was made from the house of notorious drug peddler Rafi Dhana alias “Rafi Lala”, who was recently detained under the stringent Public Safety Act, in Mandi sector, Singh said here.
He said police along with components of the National Crime Agency and the CRPF raided the house of Rafi near the LoC on specific information, leading to the recovery of seven kgs of heroin, over Rs 2 crore and a pistol with one magazine and 10 rounds and seven rounds of SLR.
The counting of the cash is still going on, the officer said.
With Friday’s development, police and security forces have been able to bust a major narco-terror module in the Union Territory, Singh said.

“The searches are still going on in the presence of magistrates and prominent citizens. The nexus of this module with Punjab-based narcotics smugglers is being investigated,” the ADGP said, adding a case has been registered at police station Mandi and further investigation set into motion.

Avalanche alert issued for five districts: JKDMA

Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Friday issued an avalanche warning over higher reaches of five districts.

In a statement, the authority said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 3500 metres above sea level in Doda and Kishtwar districts.

There are chances of ‘medium’ danger level avalanches above 2500 metres in Bandipora, Ganderbal and Kupwara districts.

People living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders, it said.

Jammu: Burglars broke into the house situated near Press Morh in Bahu fort area of Jammu on Friday, when the occupants were away and decamped with gold ornaments worth of lakh.

As per report, the burglary happened when the owner of the house went to buy momos and rest of her family members left for other places, then some thieves came in their house and ransacked the gold ornaments which were kept in the almirah and disappeared.

“My daughter went out of the house to buy something and she didn’t even informed me, the kids were in school and some people came and looted our house”, Mrs Sandhya one of  house owner said.

“This is my bhabhi’s house and she went to a shop just for half an hour and when we came back, we saw the house ransacked”, another woman occupant of the house said.

“There were two gold sets, rings, bracelets and piggy bank from which they took away Rs 5,000 cash and left the coins here”, she added.

“I was in bank and when I returned I saw our locks broken and robbed, we used to go to school and our mother use to stay here”, said Nitish, son of the woman whose house is robbed by thieves.

Jammu: Under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Benam Tosh, police have arrested six more thieves, solved four more theft cases and recovered gold ornaments weighing 10 tolas (100 grams approximately) worth rupees 5.40 lac and some other stolen items, yesterday.

The arrested thieves and dishonest receivers of stolen property have been identified as: Mehboob Akhter, son of Shamesh Din of Dodla tehsil, Basholi district, Kathua, Money Lal son of Sat Pal of Gurdaspur Punjab, Rahul Ambadass Raut alias Naina son of Ambadass Raut of Maharashtra at present Sunderbani, district Rajouri, Vikas Kumar, son of Mohinder Kumar of Gurdaspur Punjab, Aman Sambyal, son of Kuldeep Singh of Dansala Mandi Samba and Mujeeb son of Akbar Malik of Samargarden, Meerut (U.P).

Arrests were made from Meerut (U.P), Gurdaspur (Punjab) and different places of Samba and Kathua districts by the teams led by PSI Deepak Sharma, PSI Vikrant Kotwal, SHO Police Station Ramgarh Sudesh Kumar, SHO Police Station, Vijaypur Tribhawan Khajuria and SHO Police Station, Samba, Rajeshwar Singh under the supervision of SDPO, Vijaypur, Priyanka Kumari, DySP Headquarters, Mohammad Usman and Additional SP, Samba, Surinder Choudhary.

Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh said that total 45 thieves have been arrested by police in Samba district within one and half month and 22 theft cases worked out and stolen items including costly golden and silver ornaments have been recovered during intensive drive against thieves.

Investigation in all theft cases are being conducted simultaneously in highly professional manner and more arrests and recoveries are expected, he added.

Jammu: A police cop was caught red-handed here by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu, while accepting Rs 4000 as bribe within the premises of a police post, yesterday.

As per the report,  Mohammad Sultan Mirza, a Selection Grade Constable, working as Munshi in Police Post Chinore, who is originally from Reasi, on March 1, 2023 demanded Rs 8000 as bribe to ensure reconciliation between two families, who were in a dispute.

“After paying Rs 4000 as first instalment of the bribe, one of the families filed a written complaint against Mirza with the ACB Jammu,” sources said, adding that today the ACB team reached police post Chinore and caught the cop red-handed while demanding and accepting remaining Rs 4000 as bribe.

The accused has been arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the law while further investigations are on.

Inspector General of CRPF (operations) Kashmir M S Bhatia Friday said that the force is in constant touch with the Kashmiri Pandits across the Valley in a bid to strengthen their security further.

“We are in constant touch with the KPs wherever they are in the Valley. All efforts are being made to strengthen their security and provide them all possible security cover,” Bhatia told reporters at Bijbehara, Anantnag, as reported by a local news agency.

He said that security of all the minority pickets in South Kashmir and elsewhere is being reviewed on daily basis to ensure safe and secure environment to KPs. To a query about the number of active terrorists in Kashmir, he said that the number keeps fluctuating and it won’t be possible to comment on the actual number. “Recently, two dreaded terrorists were killed in South Kashmir and operations against terrorists are going on in a well-coordinated manner,” he said.

Poor seeking basic treatment at govt hospital in Jammu, now have to wait for months 

Jammu: The MRI department of Government Medical College and Hospital in Bakshi Nagar, Jammu gets 300 patients for an MRI scan daily and out of which only 30-40 patients daily used to get the facility, who will now have to wait for months because reportedly from past 15 days the MRI machine is lying dysfunctional at the hospital.

The report said that the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at the GMC Bakshi Nagar is lying dysfunctional from 15 days from which the destitute patients are suffering as they have been told the attending doctors to come for the tests after 3-4 months.

Patients who are visiting the GMC are being given appointments for months for basic MRI scans as the machine is not working properly, the report said.

Patients are now being referred to the private clinics in Jammu by the doctors at the GMC, where MRI scans cost between Rupees 5000-20,000, which is difficult  for the poor commoners to pay .There is a nexus of govt doctors and private clinics here in Jammu, which is going on here, the report said.
