Share J&K’s achievements, showcase its rich cultural heritage: LG Sinha

Jammu, Dec 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha yesterday called for sharing Jammu and Kashmir’s achievements and showcasing its rich cultural heritage.

An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that chairing a high-level meeting on the preparations for the upcoming G20 Summit meetings to be held in J&K in 2023, the LG called for extensive preparations ahead of the G20 meet.

He said that the meetings under India’s presidency were also an opportunity to share J&K’s achievements and to showcase its rich cultural heritage.

The LG called for involving students and educational institutions to make the meetings a grand success.

He instructed the Higher Education Department to conduct seminars on G20 in the universities and educational institutions across J&K.

Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta; Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, R K Goyal; Special DG CID R R Swain; administrative secretaries; divisional commissioners and senior officers of Police and civil administration attended the meeting.

Traffic to remain suspended on Srinagar-Jammu highway

The traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu national highway will remain suspended today due to a stone-slide near near Dewal bridge, officials said.

An official said that traffic movement of all types of vehicles will remain suspended on NH-44 in view of major stone-slide near Dewal bridge which has damaged both tubes of the highway.

He said likewise vehicular movement from Jammu to Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Gool, Banihal Srinagar and vice-versa shall also remain suspended.

“People are advised not to travel on Jammu-Srinagar NHW without confirmation from Traffic control units, Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191- 2740550, 9419147732), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091) and Ramban (9419993745),” he said.

Police file FIR over assault on doctor at hospital in Jammu

Police have lodged an FIR against assault on a doctor.

An official spokesperson said that the police registered an FIR in the case against those  who assaulted the doctor.

“An unfortunate incident occurred in the intervening night of 16th December and 17th December, a 10 month old child with cerebral palsy and history of recurrent chest infections was brought from a private hospital in critical condition with Broncho Pneumonia with respiratory distress,” an official spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that “The child was incubated and was managed appropriately by the doctors on duty but the child went into cardiac arrest. The attendants accompanying the child did not give their consent for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the child died.”

“Thereafter, the attendants started assaulting the resident doctors on duty. The administration has filed an FIR and at the same time the administration has taken steps to improve the security in the emergency ward of department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, GMC Jammu to prevent any such events in future,” the official said.

Honest traffic policeman returns wallet with Rs 15,000 in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 20: A traffic police inspector of a rank of an DTI traffic in Jammu namely Rakesh Kumar has returned a lost wallet of  Vishal Choudhary resident of Shastri Nagar, Jammu, yesterday.

As per the report, the matter came to light when a woman found Vishal’s wallet in Satwari and gave it to on-duty DTI traffic Rakesh Kumar there and who contacted Vishal using his number through the driving license, which he found in his purse which also contains Rupees 15,000 and other valuable Cards belonging to Vishal.

 

 

LG Sinha declares All India Inter-University Fencing Championship open in Jammu

JAMMU, Dec 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared the All India Inter-University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2022-23 open at Jammu University today.
More than 1000 fencers from 100 Universities across the country are participating in this grand event.

During the event, Lt Governor also released the Competition Mascot and departmental calendar of Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
The Lt Governor also addressed the fencers from across the country, who are taking part in the Championship.

This unique and extraordinary Championship is truly inspiring. It will enable and encourage more such sporting events and lead to identification of future talents and sustainable sports movement in the J&K UT, said the Lt Governor.
Contesting in a game is itself a victory and for the fencers it gives an opportunity to learn discipline, balance, speed, mental agility, self-confidence, he added.
Sports as soft power have an important role in bringing regions, nations, and diverse cultures together. As a social enterprise, sports give paramount importance to equality, economic development that benefits entire community, the Lt Governor observed.
Highlighting the vital importance of sports in the globalized world the Lt Governor said: “Sports can be instrument of change in the world and the change starts with accepting the challenge”.
My mantra for the budding sportspersons is to stop doubting yourself and go after what you really want in life with complete dedication. With firm determination, hard work, and faith, players can chart their own future, the Lt Governor added.
On the transformation taking place in the sporting ecosystem, the Lt Governor said, under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is emerging as a formidable sporting power. Our focus is on sustainable development of sports, the Lt Governor added.

“Improved sports infrastructure has substantially increased sports activities in J&K. Sportsperson-centric policies & schemes, promotion of sports at grassroots level, world class coaching & training facilities have infused new hopes and dreams among budding sportspersons”, the Lt Governor said.
The Lt Governor also spoke on the reforms introduced to promote sports in the educational institutions and steps taken to encourage more youth to participate in sports for their holistic development.
National Education Policy has made sports an integral part of the academic curriculum. It also emphasizes that the curriculum should focus on holistic education, in which science, social science, art, humanities and sports will promote material and human efficiency together, the Lt Governor noted.

The aspiration of the country is embedded in ambition of youth. The different disciplines of sports have become the source of new goals, character building and the values of team spirit, the Lt Governor said.
Pertinently, the Jammu University has made a provision by adding credits to the students’ results based on their performance in Sports.
Prof Dinesh Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, who is also Vice-Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council also addressed the gathering and shared his insightful thoughts and inspiring ideas about sports and congratulated the organizers for the mega Event.
Prof Dinesh Singh highlighted several initiatives of the UT Administration for the promotion and development of sports, especially in higher educational institutions and asked the sportspersons to make optimal utilization of the state-of-the-art resources available to hone their skills.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that sports and sportspersons are getting unprecedented recognition in J&K under the Lt Governor led UT administration. A new culture of night sports under flood lights is being developed in across the UT, he added

Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports, and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal welcome address and detail report of the Championship.

All India Inter-University Fencing Championship is being organized by Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu. Participants also took Sports Pledge to play with the true spirit of sportsmanship for the glory of the sport.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council; Deans, faculty members, senior officials, prominent sports personalities, large number of people and youth were present on the occasion.

Man announces 60K reward against cyber fraudster who stole 5.65 lakh using his ATM card in Jammu

Jammu, December 20, 2022:  A man namely Makhan Lal Bhat resident of Jagti, Nagrota in Jammu, today has told the media that in the month of August this year, he lost his debit card in an ATM in Jammu and after which an unidentified cyber-scammer who stole it has withdrawn Rupees 5,65,000 so far from his bank account.

Speaking to the media, the victim, said that he went to an ATM in Jammu to withdraw money and his debit card fell there and a man who was present there at that time saw his card number and who stole all the money from his bank account.

“My son works as a daily wager. I used to buy medicines with this money, now I borrow money from people to afford medicines for my ailing health. I will give sixty thousand rupees in cash as reward to that person, who will help us in nabbing the accused and recovering my money. I assure that the person’s identity will be kept secret, who will help me. The police has helped us, but the scammers is still absconding”, Mr Makhan Lal said.

All terrorist modules involved in civilian killings in last 3 years busted: ADGP Kumar

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that all the modules of terrorists involved in the civilian killings in the last three years have been neutralized and there is only left and that too will be neutralized soon.

About today’s operation, the ADGP Kashmir, while speaking to reporters in Ganderbal, said that three Lashkar-i-Toiba terrorists who were involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna and Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal have been killed in Shopian gunfight.

He said all modules of terrorists involved in the civilian killings in the last three years have been neutralized and there is only left and that too will be neutralized soon.

“Lateef Lone, one of the slain terrorists, was involved in the killing of Purana Krishna Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit,” he said, adding that another terrorist Umer Nazir was involved in the killing Bahadur Thapa of Nepal.

Earlier, a gunfight broke between terrorists and government forces in Manj Marg area of Shopian.

 

Man found dead at hospital in Jammu

Jammu, December 20: A body of a  24-year-old man was found under mysterious circumstances in a bathroom of ‘Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital’ in Reasi, Jammu on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mukesh Kumar resident of Udhampur district in Jammu.

As per the report, the deceased was working as an employee of  SMVD Narayana hospital, whose body was found, today.

The police has taken deceased’s body in their custody and they have sent it for the post-mortem.

NSS Students launches Road safety drive, assisted police in challaning violators in Jammu

Jammu, December 20, 2022: Some volunteers of  ‘National Service Scheme’ (NSS) of GDC Nagrota on Tuesday  orgainsed a road safety drive and  assisted traffic cops in Jammu, to aware people about road safety measures and traffic violations on Tuesday.

As per the report, the NSS volunteers were seen halting traffic violators with traffic cops in Jammu urging them to obey traffic rules and wear road safety measures like helmets, seat belts to avoid road mishaps as recently so many road accidents has been reported here in Jammu region.

The volunteers were seen stopping over-loaded matadors, riders sans helmets and vehicle operators without seat-belts, who were fined by the traffic cops on the spot for various violations.

Mr Akash Baloria an NSS volunteer said that the SSP traffic Jammu came to their college and told the students that they have to organise a traffic drive to aware local people about the importance of road safety measures.

“Today, some NSS volunteers of GDC Nagrota came to us and  with our collaboration they aware the local residents on the road about road safety. The students were themselves halting defaulters just as we ‘cops’ do and were ensuring that they follow traffic rules to avoid mishaps. They got to learn how traffic police manages traffic and handles violators who misbehaves with us sometimes. They were excited to work with us and I hope they disseminate what they learned in this drive with their family, friends and neighbours”, a traffic police personnel said.

J&K: Major General Mohit Seth takes over as GoC Kilo Force

Major General Mohit Seth Tuesday took over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army’s Kilo Force in the Kashmir Valley.

According to a statement, Major General Sanjiv Singh Slaria on relinquishing the command moved to Headquarter Northern Command, Udhampur.

The statement reads Major General Sanjiv Singh Slaria’s tenure saw the Kilo Force take distinctive steps towards peace and stability in north Kashmir.

“Major General Mohit Seth took over as General Officer Commanding today. He was commissioned into 3 Madras Regiment in December 1991. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, he has attended the prestigious NDC at New Delhi,” it reads.

It further reads in his distinguished military career spanning over three decades, he has held various prestigious staff and command appointments in J-K, North East and at Army Headquarter.

“He has also served as Indian Army Liaison Officer, High Commission of India, United Kingdom,” it reads.
