Measles outbreak wreaks havoc, 16 dead, over 500 cases

A 3-year-old boy with breathing issues succumbed to measles at a BMC hospital on Tuesday (December 27), a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation report said. Since the surge in measles cases in October 2022, the city has seen sixteen deaths of which eight are suspected of measles.

The child initially had a fever followed by rashes and was hospitalised three days later on December 26 for breathing difficulties. His condition deteriorated quickly and he died of septic shock, anaemia, and malnutrition. Mumbai’s infection tally has reached here to 549, a civic official said. According to the BMC, “Of the 2,60,739 children in the 9-month to 5-year age group in 78 health posts, 90,940 have been given additional doses of measles-rubella. Of the 5,293 children in the 6-month to 9-month age group in 21 health posts where the cases in the sub-9-month segment are more than 10 per cent of total lab-confirmed cases, 2,195 children have been given ‘zero doses’ of MR vaccine.”

A BMC release said 24 children have been admitted and 20 were discharged during the day. Only 99 of the 337 hospital beds earmarked for measles treatment are currently occupied, it said.

Mobile teams have been formed from December 24 to cover children at construction sites and other such spots, it informed. The measles tally in Maharashtra as on December 28 is 1238 and the death toll stands at 24 a state health department report said.

Rajouri, January 03, 2023: An eyewitness of  Rajouri terror attacks on Tuesday appeared before the media and narrated the horrendous incident, happened before his eyes at his village in Dangri.

Six people, including two child, were killed and many were injured in two separate terrorist attacks since Sunday evening in Rajouri.

“It was about 6pm in the evening when we heard gun shots outside our house” the eye-witness narrating the incident told the media.

“The terrorists were going from one house to another and indiscriminately fired upon the family members, after verifying their identities as ‘Hindus’ from Aadhar cards”, he said.

“The sound of gun shots created pandemonium amongst us, because we thought that the security forces have opened fire, after that the army, police and an ambulance also arrived in our village”, he added.

“We ferry victims to GMC Rajouri, where the injured after receiving some treatment airlifted to Jammu for further treatment”, he said.

“My sister’s son succumbed to injuries next morning, on the next day my wife got injured in IED blast, she is being treated at the hospital.

“All the houses in our village belong to Hindus, the Aadhar cards of victims were lying next to their bodies and now is in the possession of army”, he further said.

“I admitted my brother’s son at GMC (Jammu) last night, he was shot twice in arm by terrorists. Our son works as labourer and now how will he work. We are very poor. Our lives have been devastated by this terror attack”, he added.

“My daughter lives in Dangri and my phone has been ringing since morning after the incident took place”, Mr Jagdish Chander Sethi, a local, said.

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has rolled out new integrated food security Scheme beginning 1 January 2023. As per the decision made by cabinet last week, the government envisions to provide free food grains to 81.35 crore beneficiaries under NFSA, for the year 2023.

Under the scheme, Government of India will provide free foodgrains to all NFSA beneficiaries i.e. Antyodaya Ann Yojana (AAY) households & Priority Household (PHH) persons for the next one year through the wide spread network of 5.33 lakhs Fair Price Shops across the country.

The new integrated scheme will subsume two current food subsidy schemes of the Department of Food and Public Distribution- a) Food Subsidy to FCI for NFSA, and b) Food Subsidy for decentralized procurement states, dealing with procurement, allocation and delivery of free foodgrains to the states under NFSA.

Electrical lineman arrested while Accepting Bribe in J&K

A complaint was received by Anti Corruption Bureau on 02-1-2023 from the complainant against Lineman of KPDCL Sub-Division Kulgam, namely Mohammad Yousuf Dar S/o Abdul Rehman R/o Srandoo, Kulgam, for demanding bribe of ₹3,000 for settlement of electricity bill issued in the name of his son, who is living with the complainant .

The complainant is already having an consumer ID in his name, whereas a Bill was created on the name of his son for an amount of ₹13,376 for the month of November, 2022. The employee demanded him to pay ₹3000 for settlement of the said bill.

Since the contents of the complaint disclosed demand of bribe by alleged accused public servant namely Mohammad Yousuf Dar, which required prompt action by this investigating agency accordingly immediately after receipt of the said complaint Case FIR No 01/2023 was registered at P/S ACB Anantnag and investigations started.

After registration of case a trap team was constituted. The team caught Mohammad Yousuf Dar S/o Abdul Rehman R/o Srandoo, Kulgam, Lineman, Sub-Division, KPDCL Kulgam red handed for demanding and accepting bribe of ₹3,000. He was immediately arrested on spot after completing necessary legal formalities.
Further investigation is going on.

Night curfew imposed in THIS area of Jammu

The authorities have imposed night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am in a strip of one kilometre from the International Border in Samba district of Jammu division.

According to an order, issued by deputy commissioner Samba, BSF authorities during the meeting of District level standing committee on Border Security, took up the issue of imposition of night curfew in the border area enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.

The order states to ensure smooth functioning as well as better domination of border by BSF authorities, close to the border areas and to preclude nefarious activities close to the border areas, the regulation in the movement of people has become imminent, particularly in the area upto one Km from the International Border.

“It is felt by District Administration, that it is expedient that the movement of people in border areas is regulated so that there is better area domination by BS in border area and nefarious designs of forces inimical to Indian security are subverted,” it reads.

It further reads it is hereby ordered that no person or group of persons, shall move in the areas up to 1 Km along the International Border in district Samba from 9 pm to 6 am.

“In case the movement is necessary, the person or persons are required to produce their respective ID Cards to BSF and Police authorities,” it reads.

It further states any person found violating the order shall be dealt with, in accordance with law.

A person died and two others were injured after a speeding car hit the trio at Buchoo Kokernag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.

Report said that an Alto-800 bearing number JK03K 3465 hit and injured three persons at Buchoo Kokernag. The injured trio was evacuated from the spot to District Hospital Anantnag, where the doctors declared one among them as brought dead on arrival.

Identifying the deceased as Abdul Majeed Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar and the injured as Shamim Ahmed Malik, son of Gul Malik and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik, all residents of Buchoo Kokernag, the officials said a case has been registered in this regard for further investigations.

Rajouri terror attack: Rs 10 lakh reward for giving information about terrorists

The Jammu and Kashmir police have announced a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh on any information regarding the terrorist involved in the terror attack at Dhangri village of Rajouri district.

The police has given its phone numbers for the public to share the information. It has assured people that the identity of the informer shall be kept secret.

On Sunday’s Rajouri attack, two terrorists fired on three houses in which four people were killed and six injured.

These are the first such incidents in the past many years in the otherwise peaceful Jammu region.

Jammu, Jan 3: Top police officials including Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh and hundreds of people on Tuesday gathered at cremation ground in Dangri village for the last rites of six civilians killed in Rajouri Terror attack on Sunday evening.

Quoting an official, that hundreds of people and top officials from civil and police administration gathered at the cremation ground in Dangri village today morning for the last rites.

He said among top the officials, DGP Dilbag Singh, Divisional Commissioner and ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh were also present.

He said hundreds of people took out a procession, raising slogans as they gathered at the cremation ground for the last rites.

Meanwhile, one of the victims, 23-year-old Deepak Kumar, who was killed in terror attacks on the minority community in Jammu and Kashmir’s Dhangri village on Sunday was about to join the Indian Army’s ordnance department.

Deepak, the son of an employee of the public health engineering department, worked hard and qualified for the army job. He was supposed to join the army’s ordnance department in two days.

Four civilians, including Deepak, were killed and six others injured when terrorists opened fire on three houses of the minority community in the village in the border district of Rajouri Sunday evening, officials had said.

Jammu, Jan 03, 2023: The Regional Traffic Office (RTO) Jammu on Tuesday conducted driving test for light weight motor vehicles at Narwal Driving  test ground in Jammu on Tuesday.

According to the report, the drivers were seen driving their vehicles front and reverse between T- shape poles at the test ground and those operators who were seen touching the poles even slightly they were declared ‘failed’ to pass the test.

Speaking to the media , Mr Tara Mani Sharma, ARTO (Flying Squad) said, “The participants come here with their forms in this driving test ground and we arrange their turns in serials for the driving test”.

“First, we gave the drivers a demonstration of the driving test, which they have to follow without being fail to obtain the driving license from our ‘Regional Traffic Office’ (RTO) in Jammu”.

“We record every individual’s driving test on cameras and if one fails the test we tell them to go their residences and wait for our office approval to get the license”, he further said.

He added that those participants who fails driving test, they were told by the RTO department to again register for the exam and appear for the test on due dates.

“If anyone shows dissatisfaction regarding their driving test, we suggest them to submit an application in our department, after which we show them the footage of their driving test to advise the drivers, where she/he committed mistake during the test”, he said.

“There are many driving institutes in Jammu, who imparts this skill and I appeal to the parents to send their kids there to learn driving, before appearing for the test here”, he further said.

“Capt Shiva Chauhan of Fire and Fury Sappers became the first woman officer to be operationally deployed in Kumar Post, at the highest battlefield of the world,” tweeted the official account of Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army.
