Rajouri Attacks: Security beefed up at Jammu Tawi Railway Station

In the wake of recent attacks in the bordering Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, the security structure has been augmented at the Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

Jammu Tawi Railway Station, Station Director Uchit Singhal on Tuesday chaired a meeting of ticket checking staff, RPF and GRP to discuss the various areas which are needed to be focussed upon in view of recent terrorist incidents and approaching Republic Day celebrations, said a handout.

The GRP and RPF could be seen working in unison to attend to the safety and security concerns at the railway station complex with the help of sniffer dogs and metal detectors, it read.

It further added that the meeting was also organised with the contractors and vendors working at the Railway Station to keep a strict vigil for any unclaimed luggage, suspicious person or activity.

Poonch, Jan 04, 2023: The locals in Poonch has given a complete Bandh call over recent Rajouri Killings, in which six people have lost their lives, so far.

 

The killings has sparked major protests and drawn widespread condemnation in various parts of Jammu region and along with that complete Bandhs was witnessed yesterday, in several districts of Jammu division.

The mortal remains of the six deceased were given a tearful farewell on Tuesday as they were cremated  at Dangri (Rajouri) village cremation grounds.

On Sunday evening, terrorists opened fire on three houses in Dhangri village in Rajouri, killing four civilians and injuring six.

On Monday, an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the terrorists went off and two children, who were cousins, were killed and six persons were injured.

The incidents, occurring barely 14 hours apart, triggered protests across the district.

Rajouri, 03 January, 2023: The eye-witness kids in the ghastly attack in Rajouri on Tuesday shared their traumatic experiences with media, on how the terrorists executed the attack on three houses killing four people and injuring many.

Sejal Sharma, an witness of IED blast incident lying on Hospital’s bed said, ” We were sitting in our verandah when blast took place beneath us”.

“The explosion took place in turns. I ran iniside our house, my cousin brother & sister were outside.

“The blast was such that it bounced my sister in air who was standing behind me and thrown her towards me. When the security personnel and media approached our house another explosion took place that time”, she said.

She added that it was her sister & cousin brother who died in IED blast at Dangri in Rajouri.

“Our uncle lifted us and took us inside house premises.Our parents told us to stay on the first floor after firing incident, but we came down stairs. My sister (14) was studying in 7th class.

“My leg has sustained gashes  and my brother is lying on that bed. They can’t return my sister, if govt would have taken action on-time this would not had happened. I wish  perpetrators to be gunned down”, she further said.

Vanshu, another kid eye-witness of IED blast said that he was in his uncle’s house when explosion erupted. Adding he said, “The police was inquring us about yesterday’s firing incident when we heard bomb blast”.

“The terrorists barged into my uncle’s house, it was dark we were not able to see what was going on. We want revenge from the terrorists who killed our brother & sister”, he said.

Another female eye-witness lying on hospital’s bed narrated that at 7pm when there was low visibility at dusk, the armed assailants came in their residence at Dangri and sprayed bullets at them.

“They have uprooted our house by murdering our kids”, she told media while sobbing.

Intense cold wave conditions continue unabated in J&K

Intense cold conditions continued unabated in Kashmir Valley as minimum temperature dropped to minus 9.4°C in Pahalgam on Wednesday.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.2°C against last night’s minus 4.4°C. Today’s minimum temperature was 3.1°C below normal for the summer capital, the official said. Srinagar has so far seen the coldest temperature this season on December 25 when mercury plummeted to minus 5.8°C.

Qazigund recorded a low of minus 5.2°C against minus 5.0°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 9.4°C against minus 7.2°C on the previous night.

The coldest night recorded this season in the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was on January 2 when mercury plunged to minus 9.6°C, he said. Today’s minimum temperature was 2.8°C below normal for the place, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of minus 3.8°C against minus 4.1°C on the previous night, he said. It was 0.3°C below normal for the place, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8.4°C against minus 9.2°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 1.4°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district which recorded its coldest night on January 2 when minimum temperature plummeted to minus 10.0°C, the official said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 6.0°C against minus 4.1°C on the previous night in the north Kashmir area, he said. The official said that the temperature was 3.5°C below normal.

Jammu recorded a low of 4.5°C against 3.6°C on the previous night. It was 2.8°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 2.4°C (above normal by 0.2°C), Batote 2.0°C (normal), Katra 4.9°C (1.4°C below normal) and Bhadarwah Minus 1.2°C (0.7°C below normal).

In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 15.4°C and minus 18.7°C respectively, the official said.

Regarding the forecast, the MeT official said mainly clear weather was expected till January 6. “Expect further fall in minimum temperature across J&K,” he said, adding, “On January 7, weather is expected to be cloudy and from January 8-10, weather is expected to be cloudy with possibility of  snowfall and rain (in plains of Jammu) at many places of J&K (70% chance).”

After the match, skipper Hardik revealed why Axar was handed the ball in the final over although he himself had one over remaining in his quota of overs. “We might lose a game here and there but it’s alright. It’s the young guys who got us back into the game,” Hardik Pandya said in the post-match presentation.

“I just told him to simply bowl. I told him, ‘I am backing you. Even if you get hit, it’s fine’. If the same situation is there, I will take the new ball. I have been bowling in the nets with the new ball since I returned in the IPL. I have learnt how to swing it back.”

 

J&K emerging as model of digital Government across the country

Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as a model of digital government across the country with focus on a transparent and accountable governance system.

Continuing its march on the path of providing E-governance to its citizens, J&K has been successful in providing nearly 444 services online including all the major services commonly availed by the people.

As per official data, J&K is number one in the ranking of UTs in e-governance, an official spokesman said.

IT interventions and several digital initiatives are bringing transparency in the system and streamlining the public service delivery system for the welfare of common masses.
He said J&K has achieved several milestones with solid technical architecture at the service of citizens with speedy development as the new identity of J&K.

The prime objective of the government is to be online and instead of travelling to Government offices, people just need to use digital mode for availing different government services. The Government aims to establish a system which enables people to access high-quality services anywhere, anytime, on any device.

J&K Government is working to usher the UT into an environment where its citizens would carry offices in their pockets and avail any services without having to physically visit any of the offices.

Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta in a recently held meeting maintained that the contactless administration not only ensures transparency and accountability but swiftness also.

He observed that the technology happens to be a panacea for all the evils and J&K envisages utilizing the IT/ITes for optimum empowerment of its population as per the vision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led administration.

Notably, the number of online services provided by the Planning Department shot to 411 in addition to 33 services integrated on the Rapid Assessment System (RAS). Moreover 195 services had already been integrated with the feedback system out of these 411 online services and some 103 more services are going to be made RAS compliant shortly.
Synchronization with auto-appeal for the services of few departments has generated encouraging results with 99% applications disposed within the stipulated time frame as per the Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA) which not only ensures timely delivery of services but penalizes those officers/officials found failing in doing so.

The UT administration is soon going to integrate all its online services with the auto-appeal so that all the services are provided to its citizens as per the timelines specified in PSGA for these services for the benefit of one and all.

Host of initiatives like e-office, BEAMS, Awam ki Awaaz, MyGov, e-Unnat, Digilocker, Aapki Zameen Aapki Nigrani have brought transparency and accountability in governance across J&K mad brought transformational changes in the lives of people, the spokesman added.

Div Com Jammu Hands Over Ex-Gratia Relief To Families Of Persons Killed In Rajouri Terrorist Attack

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today visited the residences of families of those who lost their lives in the Terrorist Attack at Dhangri village of Rajouri, and handed over ex-gratia relief sanctioned by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor.

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha had announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh for each family, who lost their members in the cowardice Attack by the Terrorists.

The Divisional Commissioner expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members and assured them of every possible support and assistance from the UT Government.

The Divisional Commissioner also visited GMC Rajouri, to know about the condition of the persons injured in the attack. He directed the Health authorities at GMC to provide best treatment and ensure that injured and their attendants do not feel any inconvenience.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Kataria, Accounts Officer, Rajesh Sharma also accompanied the Divisional Commissioner Jammu.

J&K Has Become Tourist Hotspot, No Longer Terrorist Hotspot: Govt

Jammu and Kashmir, which used to be a ”terrorist hotspot”, has become a ”tourist hotspot” as 22 lakh tourists visited the Union Territory in 2022, nearly four time more than the previous highest, the Union Home Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ‘Year End Review 2022’ of the Home Ministry, released on Tuesday, the number of terror incidents in J and K decreased from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021, while the number of security forces personnel martyred has reduced from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.
”Earlier, it was a terrorist hotspot and today it has become a tourist hotspot in Kashmir Valley. Earlier, maximum six lakh tourists used to visit every year, whereas this year till now, 22 lakh tourists have visited. This has given employment to thousands of youth,” the year end review said.

The ministry said there are no incidents of stone pelting in Jammu and Kashmir now as the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving ahead on the path of development with firmness In the UT.

As many as 42,000 people succumbed to terrorism and in Delhi no one flinched an eyelid, but now under the leadership of Modi, there is complete control of the security forces on terrorism, it said.

There has been about 54 percent reduction in terrorist incidents, 84 percent in the deaths of security forces and about 22 percent in recruitment of terrorists in J and K, it added.
Under the Prime Minister’s Development Package for Jammu and Kashmir, about 63 projects have been built at a cost of Rs 80,000 crore in hydro-power electricity. The work of Kiru project at a cost of Rs 4,287 crore is under progress, the ministry said.

J&K masters’ roller hockey team becomes national champion for 4th consecutive year

In the recently concluded 60th National Roller Skating championship at Bengaluru, the masters’ roller hockey team of J&K again retained the champions title for the 4th consecutive year.

The team won under the captaincy of Rajesh Anand, an international player and DSP of J&K Police, a statement by information department said.

It said that the J&K masters’ team did not even loose their single match for the last four years in the nationals.

The members of the gold medal winning team were Anksuh Kohli, Dr.Rai Brinder Singh, Ramneesh Sharma, Gagan Singh Jamwal , Arvin Singh ,Vikram Gupta, Sanjeev Kumar and Sunil Pargal .

“It is also a great honour for the J&K that the masters roller hockey team is performing extraordinary at national level and adding gold to the medal tally of JKRSA,” it said.

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday joined ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ as it entered Uttar Pradesh. Scores of Congress workers and supporters from Noida on Tuesday reached Ghaziabad to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra being led by party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Led by local leader Pankhuri Pathak, Congress workers from Noida and other areas of Gautam Buddh Nagar district assembled at the Loni border in Ghaziabad to join the Yatra.
