Jammu, January 05: Strongly condemning brutal lathi charge on Rehbar-e-Khel teachers protesting for their genuine demands, Apni Party Youth wing today said that the action of the cops on peacefully protesting ReK Employees, including females is indication that LG govt is shamelessly adopting oppressive means to stifle voice of the people.

“The use of police against the work force is no solution to the long imminent issue as it would only lead to turbulence in the state”

“Today’s gruesome lathi charge on ReK teachers including female is an indication that LG Administration has decided to snub voice of the workers through force and brutality”, Raqeeq said.

Apni Party Youth wing urged upon local administration to address the genuine demands of REK teachers on priority as lakhs of family members were dependent upon such employees for sustenance and livelihood.

J&K: SIA raids multiple locations

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Thursday morning carried out raids at several location in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official told a local news agency,  that the raids were underway at different locations in the district.

As per the information, SIA raided the residential house of shameema Bagam w/o Abdul Rashid Shah R/o salkoot Kupwara in presence of naiab tahseeldar Kupwara Mr Abdul Aziz and DO pp bazaar Kupwara more details awaited

He said raids began early morning today.

An elderly couple along with their grand-daughter escaped miraculously in a terror attack in Dangri village of Rajouri although the terrorists spraying bullets had entered their house on the fateful evening of January 1.

Their dwelling was the fourth house, where the terrorists had entered that evening to carry out a dastardly attack on civilians belonging to the minority community.

At the time of the incident, there were three people inside the house. They included Nirmal Devi, her husband and their grand-daughter.

Nirmal Devi, an eye witness, said that two terrorists entered the house from their rear gate. Her husband was sleeping in one of the rooms. Seeing the gun-wielding terrorists, she pleaded mercy and told them that she was there with her grand-daughter in the house.

“They initially fired at our dog but the canine had a miraculous escape. The bullets hit the wall, where the dog was chained but it remained unhurt,” she recalled those nightmarish moments.

“I folded my hands in front of them after which they checked the first room and found none. Then they entered the second room, where television was on. The terrorists fired on it (TV) and damaged it. The bullet marks can be seen on the wall also,” she recounted the horrific incident. “Fortunately, they did not enter the room where my husband was sleeping. The gun-wielding duo after aiming fire at the TV fled from the spot. That day we had a brush with death. It was a miraculous escape for us,” she recalled.

Severe cold conditions continued unabated in Kashmir Valley with Srinagar, Qazigund and Kupwara experiencing season’s coldest night on Thursday.

“Srinagar has recorded a low of minus 6.4°C against last night’s minus 5.2°C. Today’s minimum temperature was 4.3°C below normal and surpassed the previous lowest temperature that was recorded on December 25 when mercury plummeted to minus 5.8°C in the summer capital”, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7.5°C against minus 8.4°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.5°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district which recorded its coldest night on January 2 when minimum temperature plummeted to minus 10.0°C, the official said.

 

“Jammu recorded a low of 3.0°C against 4.5°C on the previous night. It was 4.3°C below normal here”, he said.

 

Regarding the forecast, the MeT official said mainly clear weather was expected till January 6. “Expect further fall in minimum temperature across J&K,” he said, adding, “On January 7, weather is expected to be cloudy and from January 8-10, weather is expected to be cloudy with possibility of snowfall and rain (in plains of Jammu) at many places of J&K (70% chance).”

” There will be moderate rain and snowfall during January 11-13 also”, he said.

Poonch, January 05, 2023: Poonch town yesterday observed peaceful bandh in protest against civilian killings in Rajouri terror attack while Mendhar and Surankote towns would remain shut on Thursday.

In Poonch, Sanatan Dharam Sabha gave the call for bandh which was supported by different trade organizations and other socio-political bodies, including Muslim organisations.

Responding to the shutdown call, all business establishments in Poonch town remained shut today and the traffic on roads was also thin.

People at multiple places also held protest demonstrations against the terror attack. Condemning the incident, they termed “gruesome murder of innocent civilians as an attack on humanity.”

Meanwhile, the members of the civil society of Mendhar as well as Surankote towns of Poonch have also given a shutdown call for Thursday.

The traders have been asked to keep their business establishments shut.

Earlier in the day, in Mendhar, people from all walks of life assembled at Yadgar Chowk and held a meeting expressing deep condolences to the families of victims of the terror attack in Dangri village of Rajouri.

They also decided to observe a ‘shutdown’ in Mendhar town on Thursday in protest against the terror act.

Similarly, trade bodies of Surankote town along with Sanatan Dharam Sabha Surankote, Bar Association Surankote, and Islamic organisations announced to observe “Surankote (town) shutdown” till 12 noon on Thursday.

In view of the cold wave, School Education Department Wednesday extended winter vacation for schools in summer zones of Jammu division from till January 07.

Quoting an order, the winter vacation of all government and private schools has been extended till January 07.

“In view of prevailing inclement weather conditions in Jammu division, the winter vacation of all government and recognized private schools functioning in the region shall observe it upto January 07,” it reads.

 

Searches launched after 3 persons fled police naka in Rajouri

The joint team of police and army launched a search operation after motorbike-borne suspected persons on Wednesday evening fled from a police naka in the bordering Nowshera area of Rajouri district.

“Three persons moving suspiciously on a motorbike fled a police check post in Thalka area of Nowshera area of Rajouri district last evening,” police sources said, adding that they left the two-wheeler near the transit camp and fled towards the forest area.

“Army and police have launched a joint search operation,” sources added that teams are on job to ascertain the facts.

DC Rajouri visits GMC; hands over Ex-gratia relief to persons injured in Dhangri Terrorist Attack

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today visited Government Medical College & Associate Hospital and met with the persons injured in the Terrorist Attack at Dhangri. He inquired about their well being and handed over ex-gratia relief sanctioned by the Lieutenant Governor.

The Deputy Commissioner handed over cheques worth Rs 1 lakh to each of the 8 persons injured in the terrorist attack.

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha had earlier announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 01 lakh for each person killed and injured in the cowardice Terrorist Attack, respectively.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the injured and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members and assured them of every possible support and assistance from the administration.

He also directed the medical staff to provide best possible treatment to the injured so that they don’t face any inconveniences.

Among others who accompanied the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri during his visit were Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Rashid Kataria; MS DH, Dr Mehmood Bajar and Accounts Officer, Rajesh Sharma.

JAMMU, JANUARY 04: Chief Engineer (Distribution), JPDCL Jammu has informed that the power supply to Ramsoo, Neel, Ukhral, Khari and adjoining areas shall remain affected on January 05 from 11 am to 5 pm.

Meanwhile, Superintending Engineer, O&M Circle, JPDCL Jammu has informed that the power supply to PHE, IRP, Dhar, Dharochan, Seri, Bhalwal and their adjoining areas shall remain affected on January 06 from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Similarly, the power supply to Industrial Area, Anand Vihar, Bhori, Wazir lane and their adjoining areas shall remain affected on January 06 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Likewise, the power supply to Udhaywala, Gopi Nath, KC Enclave, Kailash Vihar, Anand Vihar, Hazuri Bagh, Surya Vihar and their adjoining areas shall remain affected on January 05 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Terror threats in J&K: 18 CRPF troops to be deployed at Rajouri, Poonch

The central government will deploy 18 CRPF troops in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri amid terror threats in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 18 CRPF companies – approximately 1,800 personnel – will be rushed to the Jammu region for deployment mainly in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

According to report, eight CRPF companies will be deployed very soon from nearby locations of deployment in Jammu and Kashmir while 10 CRPF companies are being rushed from Delhi.

The move followed a recent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs amidst intelligence input about the terror attack in the Jammu region

People of a particular community held protests against the terror attacks and demanded that security be enhanced in and around the places of minorities in the Jammu region.

The forward defence locations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri are being targeted by Pakistani terrorists to help infiltration bids into India.
