Raids underway at multiple locations across J&K

State Investigation Agency (SIA) is carrying out raids at multiple locations in central, north and south Kashmir parts on Tuesday morning as part of its investigation of a militancy related case registered at SIA.

An official said that sleuths of the investigating agency with the assistance of the local police and the CRPF carried out raids at five locations. The searches are being carried out in districts of Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Sopore in ‘Narco Terrorism’ case, he said.

In Anantnag, residence of Owais Gul son of Gull Mohammad, a resident of Hardu Akad is being searched by the probing agency.

The searches are being carried out in the FIR no 19 of 2022 registered at SIA Kashmir, the officer said, adding that further details of the raids will be shared later.

Chief Engineer (Distribution) JPDCL, Jammu has informed that the power supply to Patoli, Pamposh Colony Thater, Paloura, BSNL Exchange, Drugs Lab., Salerh, Old Sarore, Pandoriyan, Biaspur, Kalyana Kotli, Sai Kalan, Khana Chak, Chakroi, Satriyan, Pindi, Hansa, Flora, BOP, Seed Farm and adjoining areas shall remain affected on February 21 from 9 am to 2 pm.

The power supply to Bakshi Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Shiv Nagar, CID, Govt. Women Polytechnic, Canal, Patel Nagar, Gurha Bakshi Nagar, Kasim Nagar and adjoining areas shall also remain affected on February 21 from 9 am to 6 pm.

41 Inspectors placed as DySPs

J&K Home Department placed 41 Inspectors as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) on stop gap basis, in their own pay and grade.

“These arrangements shall not confer any right on the incumbents to claim preferential treatment for their promotion, as and when the same is made in accordance with the provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules, 2022, read with Government Order No. 653-Home(P) of 2017 dated June 7, 2017 and Government Order No. 1031-Home of 2017 dated August 9, 2017; and these placements shall be without prejudice to the outcome of writ petitions(s) orapplication(s), if any, pending, before any competent forum(s)/court(s) of competent jurisdiction or any existing or future orders of the Courts,” it was further ordered.

 

Earthquake tremors felt in parts of Jammu and Kashmir

An earthquake of 3.4 magnitude hit the Katra belt of Jammu and Kashmir Monday night, officials said. There was no casualty or damage to property reported from anywhere, they said.

The quake struck at 10.07 pm at a depth of 25 km, the National Centre for Seismology said. The epicentre was 89 km east of Katra.

Tremors were felt in Reasi and Doda districts in the Union territory. On February 17, an earthquake of 3.6 magnitude hit the Katra belt.

Authorities on Monday cancelled the results of 2 Border Battalions of Jammu and Kashmir Police Border Battalion after observing some discrepancies. However, the officials said that revised results will be issued within half an hour.

The examination for 1300 Constable posts in JK Police Border Battalion was conducted on October 26, 2022 while the results were declared on January 25, 2023.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Coordination, PHQ J&K, Danesh Rana said that the exam results for 1300 constable posts in 2 Border Battalions of J&K Police have been cancelled after discrepancies were observed due to technical fault in the software application of the implementing agency—M/S. Timing Technologies Pvt. India Ltd.

A notification issued in this regard by ADGP Coordination, reads that after the declaration of final result issued on 25-01-2023 in respect of candidates of UT of J&K who have participated in recruitment process for the post of Constable in 02 Border Battalions of J&K Police conducted in terms of the above referenced advertisement notifications, some discrepancies in the said result were observed.

“These occurred due to technical fault in the software application of the implementing agency i.e M/S. Timing Technologies Pvt. India Ltd. resulting in revision of the said result. The result, thus declared on 25.01.2023 stands withdrawn and cancelled ab-initio,” he said.
Rana said that the revised results will be issued within half an hour.

Five killed, 21 injured in road accident

At least five women were killed and 21 others were injured after a pick-up jeep which they were travelling in to attend an election rally of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) capsized at Bolmedang area in North Garo Hills district on Monday, police said.

“Most of the injured persons are seriously injured, but we cannot say how them are in critical condition and referred to Goalpara hospital in Assam for further treatment,” Shailendra Bamaniya, the district police chief of North Garo Hills, said.

The occupants of the pick-up were proceeding towards Adokgre village under the Kharkutta assembly constituency to attend an election rally in which former Chief Minister and TMC leader, Dr Mukul Sangma was to address the gathering.

The deceased were identified as Merina Sangma, Sabina Marak, Kukila Momin, Tesa Sangma and Sosin Marak.

Bamaniya said an investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause that led to the road accident, even as police have registered a suo moto case in connection with the accident.

The official weather forecaster on Sunday issued the first heatwave alert for the year, predicting soaring maximum temperatures of 37-39°C in parts of the Kutch and the Konkan regions in more signs that the country could skip the spring season and plunge into summer heat.

Large parts of west and northwest India, as well as many Himalayan towns, have recorded temperatures 5-10°C higher than what is normal for this time of the year. The Capital had a maximum of 31.5°C, and the day temperature is likely to remain at these levels for another three to four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Officials said this was the earliest a heatwave alert was issued for swathes of regions. Typically, such alerts are issued only in March.
It also said that temperatures were “markedly above normal” at most places in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP, MP, J&K and Ladakh also saw above-normal temperatures.

 

Doda land subsidence: NGT constitutes committee headed by J-K Chief Secy

Taking the suo moto cognizance of a media report stating damage in structures in Doda District, The National Green Tribunal has ordered for the constitution of a joint committee to be headed by the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir to suggest remedial measures and prevent environmental damage.

A media report stated damages in 21 structures in the Doda District of Chenab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Tribunal said, “this is a matter of concern, calling for stringent preventive and remedial measures inter alia to regulate the locations and nature of constructions in the interest of the safety of the inhabitants.”

The tribunal on the basis of a media report noted that the earth started slipping and caused damage to most of the houses in the area which has led to the displacement of inhabitants. A geological survey of the area is underway to ascertain the causes of the incident.

The bench headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel in an order passed on February 17, 2023, stated that the Committee may suggest remedial measures to prevent environmental damage in the light of carrying capacity, hydro-geology studies, geo-morphological studies and also covering other allied and incidental issues.

The bench has directed the constitution of a joint Committee to be headed by Chief Secretary, J-K. Other members will be Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology Dehradun, Govind Ballabh Pant National Institute of Himalaya and Environment, National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, Prof JS Rawat, Kumaon University, Almora, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad, National Institute of Rock Mechanics, Bangalore, CPCB and ACS Environment, J-K who will act as a nodal agency for coordination and compliance. ACS, Environment will provide for travel and logistics for members to the extent necessary.

Recently, several families were evacuated after their homes developed cracks at a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, the authorities also declared unsafe a mosque and a religious school for girls at Nai Basti village in Thathri, 35 kilometres from Doda town along the Kishtwar-Batote National Highway, said the J-K administration.

Earlier, the Tribunal had constituted a committee of concerned departments and experts to suggest remedial measures in relation to fragile areas in the Himalayan region and other places including Shimla, Kasauli, Manali, McLeod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh and Aravali hills in Rajasthan.

J&K Govt Employee arrested for posing as IPS officer, duped people of Rs 7-8 lakhs

A fourth class employee of Jammu and Kashmir Irrigation Department impersonating as IPS rank officer has been arrested in a fraud case.

Police on Monday said acting on a complaint lodged by a lady from Punjab that she was duped of Rs 7-8 lakhs, Jammu Police swung into action.

The complainant reported that being an aspirant of IPS probationary examination, she met the accused on social media, police said.

“The accused was impersonating as IPS rank officer and handling a fake account on Facebook in the name of a senior IPS officer of DIG rank posted in Madhya Pradesh,” said the police.

They said in drive against cyber crime, Jammu Police team acted swiftly and arrested the accused identified as Rakesh Kumar of Arnia, tehsil Bishnah, Jammu.

He is a fourth class employee of Jammu and Kashmir Irrigation Department.
“A recovery worth lakhs have also been made from the accused and a case under relevant sections is registered for further action,” said police.

Jammu Police however, have appealed to people to be cautious and stay alert to fraudulent and fake social media accounts.

Jammu: A Muslim couple from Jammu who are husband and wife have become talk of the town these days in Jammu, when they were spotted among several devotees playing as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on the occasion of Shivaratri in Jammu.

On the occasion of  Maha Shivaratri a Shobha Yatra was commenced from Shri Ranbireshwar Temple in which the duo took part as Lord Shiva and deity Parvati, which finally culminated at Shri Ranbireshwar Temple in Shalamar, Jammu.

Interacting with the media, Dressed as Lord Shiva Roshni’s husband, said, “I feel very happy to play Shivji on the occasion of Shivaratri as it comes only once in a year”.

Talking to the media, Roshni dressed as Parvati, said, “My name is Roshni and I’m feeling glad to dress as Parvati, this is the first time I’m playing this role”.

“There are no issues in our family regarding me playing as goddess Parvati, but only our father-in-law don’t support us because he didn’t like us playing Shiva & Parvati”, she added.

“We are playing these roles with our consent and we are Muslims, we feel very glad acting as Shiva and Parvati. We don’t care about society’s remarks”, she said.
