Newly married couple found dead ahead of their wedding reception

Two days after marriage, the lovers-turned-newly-wed couple was found dead in the same room where they went to deck up for their wedding reception which was scheduled later in the evening in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur, on Tuesday evening, officials said.

Police identified the deceased as Aslam, (24), a resident of Santoshi Nagar, New Basti, and his wife Kahkashan, (22), a resident of Rajatalab, who were married on Feb. 19. Police suspect one of them might have murdered the other before taking their own life after a wordy altercation in some issue.

Police said the couple went inside a room on Tuesday evening to get ready for the reception. Since the couple did not turn up for the wedding reception, the relatives checked on them. They forced open the room to find both the corpses of bride and groom lying in a pool of blood.

The relatives informed the police who rushed to the spot. Forensic teams were called to gather evidences from the crime scene. Both the bodies were moved to a government hospital for postmortem examination. The bodies will be handed over to the kin on Wednesday.

Police official Rajesh Chaudhary, who is attached to the Purani Basti circle, said the bodies of the newly married couple were found in the same room of the house. Both the bodies bore knife injuries mark. Bodies have been sent for the postmortem examination. The incident is being probed.

Autopsy report will make things clear. Who made the first move. Injuries on both the bodies were of the same nature. One knife was recovered from the room, the police official said. Police also said the fingerprints of the both the deceased will be gathered and an attempt to match it on the recovered knife will be made.

Family said the bride and groom were in love and both the families have gladly accepted their relationship which then progressed into marriage. Preparations were on a grand note for the wedding reception and the relatives of both the families have started arriving at the time of the incident. A pall of gloom descended on the wedding reception.

State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir on Wednesday said that it has arrested three including a woman for smuggling around 24 kilograms of narcotics worth crores of rupees from Pakistan.

State Investigation Agency in a statement, as reported by a local news agency, said “Targeting the financial networks of terror outfits with an aim to destroy its ecosystem and support structure completely, State Investigation Agency, Kashmir conducted searches on Monday at multiple locations in districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla.”

About 04 premises of narco terror suspects in different districts of Kashmir were searched on Tuesday viz residential premises of Abdul Rashid Bhat R/O Padgampora, Awantipora, Danish Farooq R/O Nasrullapora, Budgam, Abdul Rashid Mir R/O Amargrah, Sopore and Ovais Gul Bhat R/O Hardu Akad Anantnag in compliance to search warrant obtained from the Court of Special Judge, designated under NIA Act (TADA/POTA) Srinagar in connection with investigation of case FIR No. 19/2022, U/S 8/21,29 NDPS Act, 13,17, 18, 39,40 UA (P) Act read with section 120-B, 121, 121 A IPC of P/S CI/SIA Srinagar, registered in Police Station CIK (SIA) Kashmir, they said.

The SIA further said that it has learnt that investigation of the case has so far unearthed a narco- terror module that was being operated by proscribed terrorist organizations across the border in coordination with Central Jail Srinagar based handlers.

They said that investigations established so far that the syndicate had succeeded in smuggling around 24 kilograms of Narcotics worth crores of rupees from Pakistan, transported it to different places through human couriers, sold it to dealers at different places, collected the sale proceeds, and used a large portion of the proceeds for prohibited activities for supporting and nurturing terror activities.

The narcotics proceeds were used for personal financial enrichment of members of the syndicate besides, huge narcotic proceeds were channelized to support and finance terror activities in the valley.

Three members of the syndicate including a lady have so far been arrested, during the investigation of the case, the SIA said adding that further investigation in the case is continuing.

Jammu: A youth was found dead mysteriously in the bushes in Qasim Nagar, Jammu on Wednesday.

As per report, the matter came to light when some locals of the area found the deceased’s body in the bushes and informed the police.

After being informed by the locals the police also reached on the scene of incident and launched a probe into this matter.

Meanwhile the family of the victim also reached at the spot of incident along with police.

“A day before yesterday he went to his maternal grandmother’s house and when yesterday he didn’t returned home, we called him and he said he will come”, Father of the deceased said.

“We also called his friends they informed me that my son wasn’t with them”, he added.

The deceased is identified as Bobby Kumar resident of Bahu Fort, Jammu.

Jammu: A 22-year-old jawan from Mahanpur tehsil in district Kathua of Jammu, was killed and three others injured due to electrocution in Uttarkashi, yesterday.

The report said that, the jawans, part of the 11th J&K Light Infantry came in contact with a high-tension wire and sustained injuries, while one of them attainted martyrdom on the spot in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

The three injured jawans are being treated at the district hospital.

The martyred solider has been identified as Karan Singh Azad s/o Bahadur Singh r/o Tehsil Mahanpur, Kathua.

While the three injured have been identified as Rifleman Vishal Sharma r/o Rajpura, Samba, Hawaldar Pawan Singh (42) r/o Rajpura, Samba and Dinesh Raj (23) r/o Rajbagh, Kathua.

14,417 contractual employees regularised by govt

Punjab government approved regularisation of the services of as many as 14,417 ad hoc employees in the state, an official statement said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held at Punjab Civil Secretariat-1.

“Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today gave nod to the policy for the welfare of ad-hoc, contractual, daily wages, work-charged and temporary employees. Thereby paving way for regularising the services of 14417 employees,” a spokesperson said

A spokesperson of the CM’s Office said that the services of 13,000 employees have already been regularized.

“Under previous governments, various appointments to ‘Group C’ and ‘Group D’ level posts, have been made on a contract/temporary basis on the basis of imminent requirements and exigencies of service. Some of such employees have now put in a period of 10 years and more with State and they have given their prime years of life in service of the State,” Spokesperson said.

“The Government has felt that now at this stage, to relieve them or to replace them in this capacity in service with another set of people will be unjustified and improper. Thus, being a Welfare State and to protect the interest of these contractual/ temporary employees, the state has formulated the present policy, under Article 162 read with entry 41 of list-Il of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India, to ensure that such employees do not suffer from uncertainty and harassment and to grant them the security of tenure,” the spokesperson added.

“The state has taken a policy decision to continue such desirous suitable employees, who fulfil the eligibility conditions, in service till the age of 58 years by placing them in a special cadre,” the spokesperson said.

“The employees who have worked on ad-hoc, contractual, daily wages, work- charged or temporary basis for a continuous period of a minimum of ten years till the issuance of the present policy will be regularized. The applicant must have the requisite qualification and experience for the post in terms of rules if any at the time of placement in the Special Cadre. The work and conduct of the applicant must have remained satisfactory as per the assessment of the department/employer during the period of 10 years of service,” the statement added.

“For calculation of a period of ten years, the employee must have worked for a period of a minimum of 240 days in each of these ten calendar years and notional breaks will not be considered while calculating a period of ten years. For the purpose of grant of continuation to the contractual/ad-hoc/ temporary employees etc. and giving them the security of tenure, subject to good work and conduct, till the age of 58 years, they will be placed on a post, which shall not be a cadre post, by creating a special cadre of posts,” it added.

The official informed that these employees will not be placed in the regular cadre of sanctioned posts in the service under the statutory service rules and will form a special cadre of posts created especially for them.

“The process of placement of beneficiary employee, subject to clauses 2 and 3 of this Policy, shall commence on the submission of the application form by an employee seeking placement under this Policy. The application form must be accompanied by all required documents as prescribed and the incomplete application form shall be liable to be summarily rejected,” the spokesperson added.

 

Youth shot dead in Jammu outskirts

A youth was shot dead over some personal rivalry in Gharota area here on the city outskirts.

Police on Wednesday said that a person identified as Arvind was shot at by Lakhanpal with his father’s 12 bore licensed weapon.

They added that the accused has been taken into custody while the matter is being investigated.

Srinagar had 3.7, Pahalgam minus 3.7 and Gulmarg minus 4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Ladakh region, Kargil town had minus 10.6 and Leh minus 8.8 as the minimum temperature.

Jammu had 11.1, Katra 12, Batote 5, Banihal 4.6 and Bhaderwah 2.2 as the minimum temperature.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway continues to remain closed for vehicular traffic for the second day in a row due to landslides on the road stretch between Ramban and Banihal, officials said on Wednesday.

“Jammu Srinagar NHW is still closed. Restoration work is underway. People are advised not to travel on NH-44 till the restoration work is completed,” Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said.

The National Highway was blocked on Tuesday due to landslides at CPPL Mess between Ramban and Banihal.

The traffic police has said that the clearance work of the highway is going on.

The highway is the lifeline of the Kashmir valley and the main road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Kashmir-bound trucks laden with essential supplies and other vehicles pass through the highway and fruit carrying trucks from Kashmir head for the rest of the country through this road.

 

J-K has become champion in digital transactions in country: L-G Manoj Sinha

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha asserted that the Union Territory has become a champion in terms of digital transactions in the country in the last two-and-a-half years.

“In the last 2.5 years, J-K has become the champion of the country as far as digital transactions are concerned. We have built a digital society, offering 446 services online, and our entire administration is paperless. J-K is witnessing a digital revolution,” L-G Manoj Sinha said at the G20 meeting International Education Fair 2023 in the national capital.

He said that the Union Territory is a crown jewel of the country that embodies India’s values.

Further lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “people-centric efforts”, L-G Sinha said that the stone pelting has become “a thing of the past” for the UT.

“For more than three decades, the land suffered terrorism from the neighbouring countries. Stone pelting has now become a thing of the past. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Jammu and Kashmir is on the path of the move,” he said further.

Later in the address, Sinha said, “The Prime Minister ended decades of discrimination. We have made efforts to maintain people-centric efforts. Human development projects have been taken up. The growth of Jammu and Kashmir has not only accelerated but also became regionally more balanced and inclusive,” he added.

Jammu: One dead, another injured in road accident

One person died and another was injured when a four-wheeler auto met with accident near Sula Park on Reasi-Katra road.

The accident took place when the auto (JK20B – 9431) skidded off the road and turned turtle near Sula Park, resulting into on the spot death of one person and serious injuries to the other one.

The deceased was identified as Happy Abrol, age 20 years, son of Vinay Abrol, resident of Ward number 11, Reasi. The injured, identified as Ashwani Kumar, age 44 years, son of Sai Dass, resident of Ward number 13, Reasi, was immediately shifted to District Hospital Reasi for treatment.
