₹7 Crore worth gold seized from 23 women in airport

The Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad seized nearly 15 kilograms of gold, worth approximately ₹7.89 crore, from 23 Sudanese women.

Out of the 23, four passengers were arrested for smuggling gold valued at more than ₹50 lakh.

This is one of the biggest seizures of gold by the Hyderabad Customs at the airport, officials said.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration expects to get 150 crore rupees in revenue from property tax, and the money will go towards bolstering municipal bodies to give people better civic services.,

Under the new property policy, he said, there will be a 10 percent rebate for early submission, which can be paid in two equal installments.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration had on Tuesday ordered the imposition of property tax across its municipal areas from 1 April.

 

 

The tax rates will be five percent of the Annual Value (TAV) for residential properties and six percent for commercial properties, it had said.

“The government is expected to get Rs 150 from the property tax imposition in 2023-24. It is imposed for the first time in J&K,” Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development department, H Rajesh Prasad, told reporters.

He said that the step is for making municipal corporations and other bodies financially self-reliant. “It is a step for the benefit of the people.”

“Better municipal services are expected to attract more investment and encourage more people to set up business in J-K. Revenue from property taxes will be used to improve.

A man was injured in a mysterious blast in Warpora area in Sopore of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, official sources said.

A man suffered injuries in his right eye after some unascertained blast occurred while he was digging earth in his orchard.

The injured person has been identified as Mohammad Jamal Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar a resident of Warpora Sopore.

The injured person was evacuated to a hospital for treatment, they said.

Confirming the incident, a police official said that they are ascertaining the facts regarding the nature of the blast.

Jammu: It’s the wedding season and many interesting, funny and bizarre incidents are coming to the fore.

In an unusual incident reported from Kathua’s Bhugat village in Jammu, a bride made headlines after she arrived at her in-laws place in a helicopter.

According to the report, a family from Jammu’s Kathua district hired a private helicopter to bring their daughter-in-law home for the first time.

Notably, Paras got married to her bride at Dina Nagar in Punjab.

The newly married couple reached Bhagot village in a helicopter the  next day, much to the amusement of the local residents who thronged to see the unusual sight.

The villagers gathered around the couple to see them, the report said.

“This was my grandfathers dream to wed me in an unusual way, which could script history. He really want my wedding to happen in a very unique style”,  the Groom Paras said.

“My wife has brought her fortune with her in such an amazing way, we are so glad and I can’t express my happiness”, he added.

“To make my life partner happy I brought her here in a helicopter”, he added.

“I’m so glad and can’t express what I’m feeling right now. I never thought I will come to my in-laws house in a chopper”, the Bridegroom said.

“My grandfather used to say me to wed my son in unique way and I can’t put into words what I’m feeling”, the bridegroom’s father said.

“I have only one son and I wanted his marriage in such way that no body has seen”, he added.

An unidentified man was grievously injured after he was hit by a moving train on Budgam-Srinagar section on Thursday, officials said.

man was hit by the train this morning resulting in injuries to him.

He said he was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where his condition is said to be critical.

The official said the identity of the person was being ascertained.

 A 23-year-old married woman was found dead hanging from a tree in Basholi of Kathua, Jammu, Yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Kajal Devi,23, who was from Mahanpur in Kathua and married in Basholi.

She is survived with two children, one is 1.5 year of age and other is just of one month and 3 days old.

The report has said that the in-laws of the victim used to pester her that is why she took this extreme step.

The police has apprehended her in-laws and a probe has been set into motion, the report said.

The victim’s husband is a govt employee, who is working in Ranjeet Sagar Dam.

However, the cause of victim’s death will only be known after her autopsy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the government is fully committed to sustainable development in the field of green energy.

PM Modi was responding to a tweet by Union minister for heavy industries, Mahendra Nath Pandey which said that electric vehicles under the FAME ll scheme have saved 22.9 crore litres of fuel as well as reduced 33.9 crore kilogram of CO2.

The Prime Minister said the government is fully committed to sustainable development in the field of green energy.

PM Modi will be addressing stakeholders on various announcements made in the Union Budget 2023-24, starting with a webinar on green growth on Thursday.

The webinar on green growth will have six breakout sessions covering both energy and non-energy components of green growth.

Green growth is one of the seven top priorities of the Union Budget 2023-24 for ushering in the country’s green industrial and economic transition, environmental friendly agriculture and sustainable energy.

The minimum temperature dropped below normal in twin capitals and Pahalgam on Thursday even as the weather department forecast mainly clear to partly cloudy weather at most places in the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir.

Quoting a meteorological department official here, a local news agency reported that Srinagar recorded a low of 0.6°C against the previous night’s 3.7°C. Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was ‘below’ normal by 0.3°C for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 0.0°C against minus 0.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.1°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 4.4°C against minus 3.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.4°C ‘below’ normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 2.1°C against 1.2°C on the previous night and it was 2.8°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 0.3°C against 0.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 10.1°C against 11.1°C on the previous night. It was 0.5°C ‘below’ normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 6.8°C (above normal by 5.6°C), Batote 6.4°C (above normal by 2.9°C), Katra 10.6°C (2.1°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 2.2°C (1.6°C above normal).

Water supply to Janipur and adjoining localities will remain partially affected for 3 to 4 days from Friday in view of cleaning of reservoirs at Lobar.

The Executive Engineer Jal Shakti (PHE City Division No1) Jammu has requested the general public to maintain adequate storage and use the drinking water judiciously.

“This is to inform to the general public that to carry out cleaning process of the water reservoirs at Lobar, the water supply to the areas such as Janipur, Lakkar Mandi, Patoli, High Court, Roop Nagar, Chinore Upper and adjoining areas being fed from Lohar shall remain partially affected for next 3 to 4 days from Friday 24-02-2023” the EX En stated through a communiqué.

Jammu: Youth Shot Dead By His Friend after heated argument at marriage function

A 28-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his friend after the two had a heated argument over a trivial issue at a marriage function on the outskirts of Jammu, officials said on Wednesday.

Arvind Singh Jamwal died on the spot after being shot by Lakhan Pratab Singh using his father’s licensed 12-bore gun at Gharota late Tuesday night, the officials said.

Quoting the preliminary investigation by police, they said the two had a heated argument over some petty issue during a marriage function earlier in the day.

Jamwal returned to his home after the function but later went to the house of Singh on his call and was shot dead by him, the officials said, adding the accused was arrested from Nagrota and further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the body of another youth was found under mysterious circumstances at Qasim Nagar area of Bahu Fort on the city outskirts on Wednesday.

The body was taken to Government Medical College (GMC) for post-mortem, the officials said, adding the cause of his death was not known immediately.
