Jammu: In a shocking incident, two thieves broke into a showroom near National highway in Bari Brahmana late night yesterday and were caught on the CCTV camera installed there, while stealing ₹ 59,000 in cash.

The report said that the theft took place when two burglars broke into a Van Heusen showroom situated near National highway in Bari Brahmana after midnight and then stole the cash by breaking the store’s locks with a rod and ran away with 59K.

“We closed the showroom at 9:30pm last night then in the morning I got a call from my housekeeping and she asked me have I opened the showroom that much early as the locks are broken”, said Mr Vijay Kumar, manager of the showroom.

“In a haste I called my showroom staff and told him to check the showroom as what had happened there, he lives nearby it and went there and sent me the pics of broken locks of our store”, said.

He added: “I then called our showroom’s owner and sent him the pics, he told me to check the cash drawer and when I opened it there was nothing in it”.

“The robbers fled away with our two days of cash collection which was Rupees 59,000”, he alleged.

“My owner told me to visit Bari Brahmana police station to register a complaint, the police cooperated and came with me”, he said.

“A forensic team also came with them they have collected the finger prints from our store and told me to not touch anything till they don’t prepare a report”, he further said.

“I don’t know what to touch or not in my store. I have restricted the entry of my store staff and customers here”, he added.

The police is still looking into the matter.

Rain, Snow In J&K: Check Weather Update

The weather department on Tuesday forecast intermittent light to moderate snowfall and rain in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Intermittent light to moderate snowfall/rain (thunderstorm with rain in Jammu region) is expected at most places of J&K with main activity on February 28th(evening)- March 1st,” a meteorological department official  said.

He said that dry weather is expected during 3rd to 7th March.

He said that the weather system may affect surface transportation over major passes like Srinagar-Jammu highway, Sinthan Top, Sadna Top etc. during March 1-2nd.

The temperatures have been remaining above normal.

Srinagar recorded a low of 4.0°C against 4.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 2.5°C for the summer capital.

Jammu recorded a low of 13.1°C against 15.1°C on the previous night. It was 1.5°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

A terrorist has been killed in an ongoing gunfight that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Padgampora Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama, an official said on Tuesday.

An official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon them, which was retaliated, thus triggering a gunfight.

During exchange of fire, one terrorist has been killed so far while operation is on in the area.

 

Student dies in fatal Road Accident

A 28-year-old Indian-origin female student was pronounced dead at the scene when a car smashed into a bus stop and hit pedestrians in Leeds, northern England, according to British police.

Athira Anilkumar Laly Kumari has been identified as the victim of the crash by West Yorkshire Police as it appealed for witnesses.

According to the local Leeds Malayalee Association, Athira was from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and had started her studies at Leeds Beckett University last month.
“Athira was one of two pedestrians that suffered serious injuries in the collision, which involved a black Volkswagen Golf and caused damage to a bus stop,” West Yorkshire Police said in a statement on Friday.

“The second pedestrian, a man in his forties, is continuing to recover in the hospital. The [Volkswagen] Golf driver, a 25-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail as enquiries continue into the collision,” the police said, appealing for footage from car cameras in the area on the day of the crash on February 22.

The case is now reportedly being handled by the Indian Consulate in Birmingham to offer assistance to the victim’s family in India.

23 teachers terminated from service in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has terminated the services of 23 ReT teachers over ‘invalid’ qualification certificates acquired from un-recognised boards.

The termination order has been issued by the Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) Ravi Shankar Sharma stating that the 23 RETs of different districts of Jammu division have acquired their qualification from the Boards which have not been granted equivalence by the J&K Board of School Education (BOSE).

“A committee was constituted to review the pending regularization cases of RETs and the meeting of the ReT verification committee held on February 7 of 2023. The committee member in the meeting observed that 23 RETs of different districts of Jammu division have acquired their qualification from the Boards which have not been granted equivalence by the J&K Board of School Education, Jammu,” the order reads.

As per the order, it has been communicated that these boards have not been recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) in India.

In wake of this the committee has recommended the termination of services 23 RETs “immediately as they do not possess the requisite qualification certificates”

In view of the recommendations of the committee, the DSEJ has directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Jammu, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar and Rajouri districts to disengage the services of these teachers “immediately under an intimation to this office.”

34-year-old govt employee dies while playing cricket

In a piece of very shocking news, Vasant Rathod, a senior clerk of the state goods and service tax (SGST) department suffered an unfortunate death while playing cricket on Sunday. According to reports, Rathod, who was playing at the playground of a dental college in Bhadaj near Ahmedabad, collapsed with a cardiac arrest.

A senior official of SGST said, “During the match, Rathod’s team was fielding. He appeared to be fine when he was near the crease, bowling. However, he suddenly felt severe chest pain and collapsed. His fellow players rushed to his rescue.”

The report further suggests that Rathod was at first taken to the dental college where the match was getting played. But he was then moved to Sola Hospital as his oxygen level was dipping. Here, he breathed his last.

34-year-old Vasant Rathod was a resident of Vastrapur. He had a wife and was posted at SGST head office at Ahmedabad in Unit 14.

Interestingly, this is the third such case within a short duration of time. Earlier Prashant Bharolia (27) of Rajkot and Jignesh Chauhan (31) of Surat died after suffering cardiac arrest while playing cricket.

The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has strongly condemned the dastardly attack on Sanjay Kumar Sharma in Pulwama.

He said the administration is standing strong with the bereaved family.

“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The administration has given a free hand to the security forces to deal with the (militants) and we will continue to combat such acts of (militancy) firmly and decisively,” the Lt Governor said in a statement.

The Haryana Government on Sunday ordered suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Nuh district for three days over apprehensions of communal tension and breach of peace following a call for more protests over the abduction-murder of two men from Rajasthan allegedly by cow vigilantes.

The restrictions “shall remain in force with effect from February 26 to February 28, 2023 (23:59 hrs),” according to an official order.

Sources said security has been strengthened in Nuh, where hundreds of people blocked the Nuh-Alwar highway in Firozpur Jhirka on Friday demanding the arrest of the accused in the abduction and murder of the two men from Bharatpur whose charred bodies were found in Haryana’s Bhiwani.

“Haryana Government has issued a temporary suspension of mobile internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), all SMS services including bulk SMS and excluding banking and mobile recharge, and all dongle services, etc. provided on mobile networks except the voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of district Nuh with immediate effect,” it said.

It cited “potential cause for communal tension and disturbance of public peace”.

The celebrations for the tiny tots began with freeze dance followed by different categories of sports. Held at Major Nain Singh Park, Preshoolers displayed a grounded spirit on the ground with games such as cleaning the city, pickup the fruits and transport race.

Nursery students attempted sports like lock and key, colouring colour race and build the tower. Junior KG toddlers participated in sports like fill the bottles and plant me. Senior KG buds demonstrated their drill at Hula Hoop race.

“After a two year hiatus due to the Covid, we are happy that life is becoming normal. This is also a spirited time for the smaller ones who abstained from schooling for two years.
