        Thieves steals cash, gold worth lakhs from officer’s house in Jammu

Jammu: Some thieves stole cash, gold worth lakhs from house of retired DSP police officer’s house situated in Sanji Morh in Chack Nathal village in Kathua yesterday.

According to report, The suspects entered the house of the officer when they went to Gurudwara to meet their Guru in Sanji Morh and then some burglars  gained entry into the house and stole 20 carats of gold worth lakhs,  silver anklets, Rs 49,500 cash and antique currency of Rs 51 from their house.

“My family and I went  to meet our Guruji in Gurudwara to bid him goodbye as he has to leave tomorrow and I’m security in charge of our Guru ji”, said, Mr Sagar Chand.

“We returned back and saw our main locked  as it is, but when my daughter went inside we find all the locks of door and our almirahs broken”, he said.

“The thieves have stolen 20 tola gold worth lakhs, Rs 49,500, silver anklets and Rs 51 antique coins which we kept in our almirah”, he added.

“This is unfortunate that constantly thefts are happening here”, a local leader said.

“I was attending a religious feast when I was informed that our retired DSP sir house has been ransacked”, he further said.

“They broke all the thieves and stole their valuables worth lakhs. This is our and thefts are not stopping here”, he added.

“I called Sub inspector and DSP Mehreen and apprised them the situation then they came here”, he remarked.

“We have also submitted CCTV footages of the house to SSP Mehreen Kathua”, he said.

Jammu: General Officer Commanding (GOC), the White Knight Corps (16 Corps), Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain on yesterday reviewed the integrated operational training infrastructure and operational preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC ) in Jammu district.

Lt Jain visited Rakhmuthi, Akhnoor to review the integrated operational training infrastructure.

Earlier, he visited LoC in Jorian and interacted with the field commanders and soldiers to review the security situation and operational preparedness. He complimented all ranks for maintaining high standards of operational excellence and preparedness.

Meanwhile, Lt Jain also visited the annual training camp of Sappers at Akhnoor. He reviewed training methodology and interacted with troops undergoing training.

Following the interaction with the Sappers, the GOC complimented the engineers for their professionalism, high standards of operational readiness and devotion to duty.

“These engineers of the Indian army (Sappers) underwent training and gained field experience regarding bridge construction, crossing expedients in water obstacles, clearing the ground for field troops,” the sources said.

A Surat district court in Gujarat on Thursday convicted Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case against him over his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark in 2019.

Gandhi was convicted under Indian Penal Code sections 499 and 500. The maximum possible punishment under this section is two years.

However, the lawyer representing Gandhi said that the punishment of two years was reduced to 30 days and a bail has been granted, while allowing the right to appeal.

BJP MLA and former Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” remarks.

The complainant claimed that the controversial remark was made at a rally at Kolar in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections which defamed the entire Modi community.

The court’s Chief Judicial Magistrate H.H. Varma last week had concluded hearing the final arguments from both sides and set March 23 to pronounce its judgment.

Jammu: In a horrendous incident, a woman killed while seven members of her family hurt in road mishap in Thathri area of  Doda Jammu yesterday.

The report said that the incident occurred when a Duster bearing registration number (JKO6A6939) was going to Doda from Kishtwar after paying obeisance at Sarthal Devi temple in Kishtwar and met with accident near grid station Thathri  and fell into a deep gorge there.

Soon, after the mishap the injured were admitted to Associated Hospital and Govt Medical college Doda  by the locals for treatment.

In this untoward mishap eight  persons were injured who were shifted to the said hospital where 1 woman identified as Sushma Devi wife of Bir Singh resident of Bhaderwah succumbed to wounds, the report said.

 

 

While the injured have been identified as Sorav (08), Gorav(07), Charan Dass (23), Rishi Kumar (52), Kewal Kumar (25), Ankush Kumar (28) and Raksha Devi (27) who all are residents of Bhagratha Bhalla in Bhaderwah of Doda.

“Six people arrived in our hospital in which two among them were unstable and two are minors”, Medical Superintendent of GMC Doda, Mr Yudhvir Singh said.

“The doctors are evaluating their condition after conducting patients CT scans, Ultrasound tests we can tell about their condition” he added.

“They went to Sarthal Devi and in the evening when they were returning they met with this mishap and a lady among them died on the spot”, he further added.

“We can say minors are not okay as their heads are swelled due to this mishap and after conducting CT scans we can evaluate their condition”, he said.

Amid forecast for mainly dry weather in the next 24 hours, the minimum temperatures recorded an increase but stayed below normal at most places on Thursday.

A meteorological department official said that mainly clear to cloudy weather towards evening and night was expected during the next 24 hours.

On 24-25 March, he said, rain and thunderstorm with snowfall over higher reaches at scattered places was possible. Mainly dry weather is expected thereafter till 28 March, he said.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.2°C against 4.0°C on the previous night and it was 0.2°C above normal for the summer capital.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.0°C against minus 1.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 13.8°C against 13.1°C on the previous night. It was 1.7°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 4.2°C (below normal by 1.1°C), Batote 6.3°C (below normal by 1.8°C), Katra 11.3°C (1.2°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 4.6°C (0.7°C above normal).

Jammu: Intensifying its action against drug dealings and to neutralize the activities of drug peddlers within the district, Kathua Police yesterday recovered  50 grams of Heroin (Chitta) like narcotics at Rajbagh in Kathua and  arrested two drug peddlers.

As per report , The Rajbagh police received inputs through reliable sources that two persons namely  Shonki S/o Feroz Din of Mehma Pandori, Amritsar and Makhan Din S/o Shaiya of Kateeba Batala Gurdaspur in Punjab are indulged in illegal smuggling of Heroin  and proceeding from Lakhanpur towards Jammu in a vehicle Alto Car bearing Reg. Acting swiftly a Police team led by SHO Rajbagh Tariq Ahmed under the supervision of SDPO Pankaj Soodan laid a naka at National highway Rajbagh and intercepted the said vehicle and on thorough checking approximately 30 grams of Heroin like narcotics was recovered from the possession of the accused persons.

After that the police  recovered the heroin approx. 50 grams and also  seized their vehicle on the spot.

In this a case an FIR No. 62/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 under NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rajbagh while further investigation is underway.

Jammu: A 28-year-old  woman on Wednesday  jumped into the Chenab river from above the Doda bridge was miraculously saved by locals.

As per report, a woman who is in her 30’s came on the Doda bridge and suddenly jumped into the chenab river to end her life.

However, when the alerted locals and police saw woman jumping into the river, they went after her and rescued her from the river.

The girl was rescued immediately and taken to GMC Doda in an unconscious state for the treatment, the report.

It is not known yet why the woman took this extreme step to end her life, the report added.

She is a resident of Jathi village of Doda and is currently out of danger.

Doctors at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara in  Kashmir’s Anantnag district kept their nerve to deliver a baby through lower-segment cesarean section while an earthquake rocked the whole J-K yesterday.

As per report, the matter came to light when CMO Anantnag took to tweeter and said, “Emergency LSCS (lower-segment cesarean section) was going on at SDH (Sub District Hospital) Bijbehara, Anantnag, during which strong tremors of earthquake were felt”.

Talking to the media, A senior doctor who conducted operation, said, “We thank God who encouraged us to be with patient”.

“On the intervening night of March 21 and 22 we received a call from SDH Bijbehara for three emergency procedures and with God’s grace we have completed two successfully and one has remained”, he explained.

“The patient we attended had high risk profile and her baby was also in distress, during the operation we felt a jolt and all my team might have felt it”, he added.

“During the operation when earthquake hit us I told my team to carry on the operation to save the patient and we successfully saved mother and baby”, he said.

“Obviously everybody will run for their safety during earthquake but we stood with the patient and kept her motivated, the duo is okay and we’re also with Almighty blessings”, he remarked.

“We had only thing in mind that we have to protect our patient and must not leave her alone whatever happens and finally in the end we emerged victorious”, a woman doctor said.

“We only felt minor jolts in beginning but with time as tremors increased it raced our heart, but our patient is our first priority & we stick to our job”, she added.

“Our gift is when we saved mother-baby duo and when her family thanked us”, she said.

“We’re humans and it is natural that we panicked cause recently a big earthquake rocked Turkey  and we’re here to look after patients”, another female doctor said.

“Our team didn’t feel okay to abandon patient and we’re so glad that we saved mother and her infant. We had dinner at 12:30am in night cause we succeeded in saving lives”, she added smiling.

An earthquake of 6.6-magnitude struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, shaking the J&K so violently that residents in many areas rushed out of their homes in search of safety.

A woman suffered ‘minor injuries’ after a house she was dwelling in collapsed allegedly after last night’s earthquake in this district, reports and officials said on Wednesday.

Quoting locals  a local news agency reported that the house at Balnoi village of Mankote Mendhar area in the district collapsed after last night’s 6.6 magnitude tremor shook it, leading to minor injuries to a woman identified as Asiya Parveen, wife of Mohammad Bhasharat . A police official said that while the woman suffered minor injuries, claims about the house getting damaged due to the earthquake were being verified.
