Grant OBC status to Jat community: Manmohan
Jammu: All India Jat MahaSabha, Jammu and Kashmir, has urged the Government to fulfil their long-standing promise of granting Other Backward Class (OBC), status to the Jat community.
This demand was made during a meeting convened by Ch. Manmohan Singh, president of AIJMS, Jammu and Kashmir, and former Mayor, Jammu here, today.

In the meeting, district presidents, tehsil presidents, and other office bearers of the Jat MahaSabha were present and deliberated on the pressing issues facing the community.
Addressing the meeting, Ch. Manmohan Singh threw light on the unwavering commitment of the Jat MahaSabha in its struggle to secure OBC status for the Jat community. Over the last decade, the MahaSabha has tirelessly organized hundreds of rallies, Grand Mahila Adhiveshan, and National Level Sammelan to the cause of the Jat community. Through these efforts, the Government’s attention was drawn to this issue.
Ch. Manmohan Singh further pointed out that while the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, made an announcement regarding the conferment of OBC status to the Jat community, no substantial progress has been made to fulfil this promise. He expressed his deep concern over the Government’s inaction in this matter and urged swift action to settle the demand.
Manmohan Singh hoped that the Government at the Centre will grant OBC status to the Jat community before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that if the Government failed to fulfil its commitment regarding OBC status to Jat community before the upcoming elections, it should not expect support from the Jat community in the coming elections.
He underscored the Jat MahaSabha’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Jat community, pledging to continue the fight until OBC status is granted. The MahaSabha remains steadfast in its commitment to work tirelessly for the upliftment and empowerment of the Jat community.
He appealed to the Government to act promptly and honor their commitment to the Jat community, recognizing the importance of OBC status in securing the community’s future.
