LGBTQIA+ community in Jammu expresses joy over inclusion in govt recruitments

Jammu: Several members of LGBTQIA+ community in Jammu are in euphoria since yesterday when J&K UT govt took historic decision of including ” Third Gender/any Other Category”, in application forms in recruitment to various posts in J&K.
The General Administration Department yesterday issued an order apprising all the administrative units to make modifications as per the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights), Act 2019, in Jammu and Kashmir to add third gender/ any other in govt job forms.

Talking to JK Media, One of the members of LGBTQIA+ in Jammu, Rubina said, “We’re so glad to hear this news but alas no govt has done anything for us since past 70 years.
“People might call us BJP supporters but we are deeply thankful to PM Modi for including us in govt recruitment forms. We pray for his well being.
“We also express gratitude to LG Sinha who took our cognisance”.
Responding to a media query about the agitation of LGBTQIA+ demanding inclusivity in Govt jobs for educated LGBTQIA+ persons in J-K, Rubina added, “We have seen how our children have experienced discrimination and rejection by society”.
“Trans children have been called names like Hijra, Kinner, Khusra but people don’t see we have a identity like I’m Rubina and they’re Rani, Arnavi.
“People should show us affection and respect instead of seeing as low beings. It is such a happy occasion for parents who have trans kids”. they added.
“The LG regime has taken a good step for LGBTQIA+ community because now we can also prove our mettle.
“Earlier, there were only two genders mentioned in J&K govt job forms but now they have included third also.
“I’m in final year of my degree and I’m so glad that Jammu university has given me this opportunity.
“I’m so glad that Rubina Dadi guru provided me opportunity to pursue studies. I’m so proud of my grandmother and maternal grandmother”, said Arnavi, a Trans-person who is pursuing a degree from University of Jammu.
“The Punjab university is the first which have built separate washrooms for LGBTQIA+ but in J&K there are no such facilities for Trans people.
“The former govts have only knocked our doors for votes except PM Modi”, They added.
“I also appeal authorities to make education free for trans persons”, Arvani claimed.
“We will encourage those kids who want to study and will not let them participate in practices done by trans people”, Rubina asserted.
