Locals intensified protest in Jammu

Jammu: Agitators which comprised majority of the woman on Wednesday blocked Vikram chowk in Jammu opposing the installation of smart meters in their areas, expressing concerns about affordability of being financially weak.
A large gathering comprising residents from different localities assembled at Vikram chowk on the protest call of social activist Amit Kapoor demanding an immediate halt to the installation of smart meters. The protest caused a traffic blockade on the road, leading to disruptions and long queues of stranded vehicles on both sides.

“We are not ready to afford smart meters in our households”, one of the woman dissenter said.
“We are so thankful to media who raise our issues. LG sir used to say that the poor people has his support.
“But this is a poor woman whose electricity connection has been discontinued from a month. Don’t destitutes have the right to have electricity.
“The LG sir should first install smart meters in Bihar and then in Jammu. We will give three days ultimatum to local regime otherwise we will make Jammu similar like Jantar-Mantar.
“I’m not one of those who steps back”, asserted, Social activist, Mr Amit Kapoor.
“Our woman protestors sat on hunger strike in Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu earlier and now we will not let LG regime to install smart meters”, a local man said.
“We will break smart meters and will not pay hefty electricity bills”, Mr Amit Kapoor added.
