Scammers posed as officer, looted woman in Jammu

Jammu:  In a bizarre case of online financial scam, cybercriminals reportedly posed as PDD officers to retrieve important financial details from a victim woman and looted her money in Jammu.

The case came to light after the victim received text message on her mobile that her electricity connection will be discontinued if she didn’t pay her electricity bills.

“I was about to sleep in the night then I received a message on my mobile that your electricity connection will be disconnected if you didn’t share your bank details with us.

“On the next day I received a call from the scammers a man called me and  said that I’m an engineer of electricity department give me your details.

“He apprised me to download a mobile application called as ‘QuickSport’ and told me to put the One Time password (OTP) number that I got on my phone.

“Further he told me to put his id number which was an amount of Rs 99,000 which he stole from my bank account twice.

“I asked him why the electricity bill payment is taking that much time,

“He told me that the PDD department is spending such time on calls to aware consumers.

“When I told my son about this scam he said that I shouldn’t have done this idiocy of sharing my financial details with him.

“I have freezed my bank account but as I was coming here he again called me and said that I should again initiate the bill paying process as it is not over yet.

“I told him to return my money that you have burgled from my account as I’m going to cyber cell to register a complaint against you”, said, Mrs Sharda Gupta, Victim of the cyber-scam.
