Shatrughna Mali, senior inspector of crime branch unit-3, informed that on December 14 last year, a rape case was registered at Nerul police station against an unidentified accused for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in a garden near Balaji temple in Nerul. The accused noticed that the girl was accompanied by her lover, so he posed as a constable and threatened to arrest them for indecent act in public place. He later sexually assaulted the girl. “We scanned around 50 CCTV camera footages, and inquired with around 12 suspects from Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Thane and Raigad regions, who had indulged in similar modus operandi of posing as cop and assaulting women. We then zeroed-in on Santosh Narvade.”
