From the past few months, several cases of cyber scam has appeared in Jammu, in which people have reported that they are receiving messages over the social media by unknown individuals in which they first befriend their target individuals and later hack their whatsapp account and use it as an extortion tool.
In a recent case of cyber scam in Jammu, a man received a message ‘Are you Interested’ on his whatsapp account from a fraudster disguised as woman, asking him to get intimate with her.

As per the sources, once the hacker gains control of the person’s social media account such as Whatsapp, instagram, facebook , they use it as an extortion tool. The scammers record the nude pics/videos of the person and threaten their victim of posting their obscene photographs/videos on their various social media groups and sharing with their family and friends , if they fail to pay them the desired amount.
The scamsters are also tricking the users’ contacts by impersonating him/her and asking for money, citing distress and access banking information if it is already shared in previous conversations. Recently, some cyber scam incidents occurred in Jammu in which some scamsters disguised as government officials were asking money from various people, according to the sources.
It seems the scammers have a nexus with some local people of Jammu and are running a racket in collaboration with various states and have found a way of online frauds to dupe the people.
The local cyber cell has recorded some cyber scams and it is advised to the people of Jammu to avoid such messages and be on alert to save themselves from such scamsters.
