Peoples Democratic Party President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that elections are not the solution to the problem of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is regrettable that the Supreme Court has not heard the petition regarding the abrogation of Article 370 for three years, but still, I hope that we will get justice in the court and Jammu and Kashmir will be given its special status.
Speaking to reporters in Kupwara, North Kashmir, on Monday, Mehbooba Mufti said that this matter is very important and sensitive. It is a question of respect and the life of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we have seen in the last few years that a kind of atmosphere is being created against Muslims all over the country. He said that many kinds of apprehensions are being created in the people’s minds because the Jahangirpuri case is coming to the fore. There have been contempt of the court’s decision in Jahangirpuri Delhi, but the Supreme Court did not take any action. Despite the order of the Supreme Court, the process of demolishing people’s houses has continued. I think it is contempt of court, but we have not seen Supreme Court taking cognizance of it. The Supreme Court should have taken action against the officers found contempt of court. That’s why we also have many kinds of doubts.
Criticizing the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, which came into force on August 5, 2019, he said that the BJP took away our special status from us unconstitutional by using an absolute majority in Parliament. I hope the Supreme Court will restore it. Responding to the question of delimitation, Mehbooba Mufti said that this is a part of the mission launched on August 5, 2019, to change the political, social, and demographic character of the Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The central government wants to convert Muslims from majority to minority in Jammu and Kashmir. They want to weaken them politically. BJP is doing everything possible to make the people of Jammu and Kashmir politically weak. When asked about the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti said that the elections would not solve the problem of Jammu and Kashmir. We do not know when elections will be held here. The game of destruction that is going on here, the election, is not the solution. The central government is not doing the work it should do to solve the problem here.
