J&K People’s Conference (PC) president Sajad Gani Lone, while taking a dig at the National Conference leadership, on yesterday stated that it was ironic that the robbers of 1987 had the gall to talk about interference in the election in J&K.

Responding to the statement of National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s recent statement about interference in elections, PC president said, “Farooq Abdullah has no moral right to talk about rigging or interference in elections as he has been the biggest benefactor of rigged elections.”

“Farooq Abdullah should leave the role of talking about the interference of institutions in the electoral process to us since we have been victims of rigging and he has been the benefactor. My father was the victim of rigging in 1987. Thousands of Kashmiris – young and old – are in graves because of the consequences of 1987 rigging,” he added.

Reacting to the statement of Omar Abdullah on withdrawal of residential accommodations and security from political leaders, Sajad said, “I condemn the administration’s decision to withdraw security and accommodation from political leaders.”

“We should not only condemn such actions by the current administration but also condemn similar actions by the governments in the last 30 years. Security has been used as a security tool today and in the past. We should not be selective in our condemnation. We should not allow anybody to go scot free. If Omar Abdullah feels, and rightly so, that security is being used as a political tool, he should acknowledge and apologise for doing the same during NC regimes,” he said.

Three boys harassed girl in her house in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 08: A shocking incident has appeared in which three boy namely Amit, Arjun, Rahul harassed a girl at Saroda village in Domana, Jammu on Yesterday, when she was alone in her house.

As per the report, the three accused barged into the house of alone victim and harassed her and gave her threats if she discloses the incident to anyone.

The victim described the incident to her parents when they returned home. They have filed a complaint in Domana police station against the culprits, the report said.

The police has launched a probe regarding this matter and further.

J&K: Terrorists escape after brief exchange of fire

Kashmir, December 08, 2022: After a brief exchange of fire, terrorists have managed to give slip to government forces in Wathoo area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district where a gunfight broke out last night, officials said on Thursday.

An official told the news agency that encounter broke out last evening after a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched search operation in the area.

He said as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the party, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter.

“After initial exchange of fire, no contact was established with the terrorists,” he said.

He said cordon layers were tightened after initial exchange of fire, however, no terrorists were found during subsequent searches after which the operation was called off.

He, however, said during searches two Pherans, two pistol rounds and three AK-47 rounds were recovered from the site.

Live mortar bomb found near IB in Jammu

Samba, December 08, 2022: A live mortar was found this morning in Sinki Chhapri village near International Border in Samba, Jammu.

According to the report, some labourers found the unexploded mortar shell while digging at Sinki Chhapri village and informed the local residents, who then called the local police and Border Security Force (BSF). Taking the live mortar in their custody the BSF called a bomb disposal squad to the village and the explosive device was safely defused.

Sub-zero temperatures ease slightly as J&K braces for snowfall

Amid slight ease in sub-zero temperatures on Thursday, Kashmir Valley is bracing up for two approaching wet weather systems which are expected to bring light to moderate snowfall intermittently from December 9 to 13.

Quoting a meteorological department official, a news agency reported that Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.8°C against minus 3.0°C on the previous night. So far, the coldest night this season in the summer capital was recorded on December 5 at minus 3.4°C.

While there was mist this morning, the MeT official said, today’s temperature was 2.2°C below the normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.

Qazigund recorded a low of minus 3.0°C against minus 3.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 3.6°C against season’s coldest night at minus 5.6°C on previous night and it was 0.4°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of minus 1.8°C against minus 1.9°C on the previous night and it was 1.1°C below normal for the place, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2.8°C against minus 4.0°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.9°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the official said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 2.5°C against 3.1°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.7°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 7.6°C against 6.9°C on the previous night. It was 2.4°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of minus 0.2°C (below normal by 2.3°C), Batote 4.2°C (0.2°C above normal), Katra 8.0°C (0.6°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 1.8°C (0.5°C above normal).

In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 8.2°C, Kargil minus 12.1°C and details regarding mercury in Drass, the world’s second coldest place after Siberia, were not immediately available, the official said.

MeT department has already forecast light to moderate snowfall in Kashmir from the evening of December 9 to 10 and on December 12-13.

“A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from December 9. Under the influence of the system, there is a possibility of light snow over plains and lower reaches, light to moderate snow over middle and higher reaches during 9th December (evening) to 10th December (evening) particularly over north, northwestern, central parts of Kashmir and South Kashmir,” the MeT official said, adding, “Light rain was expected at isolated to scattered places of Jammu.”

A feeble WD is also expected to hit J&K on night of December 12 and 13. There is possibility of snowfall over higher reaches under its influence in Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal, he said. Dry weather is expected thereafter till December 18, he added.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj yesterday stated that it was high time for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to reinvent their economic base and fully utilize the assets to generate revenues and spur the local economy.

“Many under-utilised assets can generate employment, business opportunities with engagement of local community,” he said, while addressing the gathering after inaugurating a multi-level parking facility at Panjtirthi Jammu.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the unprecedented work being done in Jammu and Kashmir in the last three years through people’s participation and proactive citizen-centric governance. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfil the resolution of “making Jammu and Kashmir a fear-free, corruption-free society.”

“Last year, a record 3506 projects were completed in district capex only in Jammu. This financial year’s budget of Jammu district capex has been increased to Rs 1442 Cr as compared to Rs 700 Cr in the last financial year,” he informed.

Dedicating the new parking facility to the people of Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said that the project under AMRUT-Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation was part of the smart parking initiative using modern solutions to considerably reduce parking on roads and generate revenue for the city.

The elevation of the main building (parking facility) depicts “Dogra heritage and culture” in blend with the architecture of the surrounding heritage buildings. The facility will provide parking space for nearly 400 vehicles, significantly decongesting traffic in the adjoining area of Jammu city by reducing street parking.

Terming community involvement key to revitalize and rejuvenate the cities, the LG Sinha said, “With the help of people we can create healthy cities, create incentives for Swachh Abhiyan, protect natural assets and strengthen transportation, water and utility infrastructure.”

The Lieutenant Governor shared the vision of the government for urban rejuvenation and the efforts being made to achieve “three goals- Sustainability, Efficiency and creation of a Vibrant Society.” To realize these goals, the community must come together with development in different spheres such as mobility, economy, environment and governance in an integrated manner, he added.

The Lieutenant Governor further observed that there was a need to focus on the concept of augmented city for the development of urban areas. “We have to add value to the potential of Jammu city, its tradition, heritage, culture, uniqueness and how it can grow economically,” he added.

“Improving the quality of life of every citizen is the prime objective of the administration. We have to increase the capacity of Jammu city to serve the citizens, preserve the environment, make public services efficient, boost local economy, create opportunities for public-private partnership and add value to the city’s growth potential, its tradition, heritage, culture and uniqueness,” said the Lieutenant Governor.

Gang of armed Robbers hold family hostage for ransom in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 07: In a bizzare incident, 11 armed men robbed a house near Green Belt Park at Gandhi Nagar in Jammu, holding the occupant family hostage at gun-point for around six hours. The incident took place around 7am in the morning.

As described by the report, the incident took place when a gang of 11 armed men barged into a house situated at Gandhi Nagar at 7’o clock in the morning and forced the family members inside their house, while snatching their mobile phones they held the family members hostage at gun-point demanding ransom for their life.

It has been learned from a report that the gang of masked robbers took approximately 12 lakhs of cash from the victim ‘Aggarwal’ family.

The invaders pushed all the members of the family in one room and demanded money from them as ransom, the report said.

The suspects kept the victims hostage shockingly for six hours and released them after they got the cash from victims, as per the report.

Police has currently launched a probe in this matter and further details will only be available after thorough investigation.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated a Multi-Level Parking Facility at Panjtirthi, Jammu.
Dedicating the new parking facility to the people of Jammu, the Lt Governor said that the project under AMRUT-Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation is part of the smart parking initiative using modern solutions to considerably reduce parking on roads and generate revenue for the city.

Bike, Cash stolen from a shop in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 07: A theft case has been reported from Satwari area of Jammu, in which a burglar allegedly stole Rs 8000 and a bike from a shop, late night yesterday.

It has been learned from the report that the burglary happened late at night when a thief targeted a shop in the mentioned place, he entered the workshop stole the bike which was kept there and disappeared with eight thousand rupees also.

“After attending a wedding last night at 11pm I parked my bike here and when I came back in the morning my motorcycle was missing from its spot”, Workshop’s owner said.

J&K: 23-year-old woman killed by husband, alleges family

A family of a woman from Dorus village of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday accused the in-laws of their daughter’s murder in Zachaldara area of Handwara.

“Yesterday late last night, my sister my Uzma (23), was brutality thrashed by her in-laws including her husband and left her critically injured following which she was referred to SKIMS hospital Srinagar where she succumbed,” brother of the deceased said.

He alleged that the victim was allegedly murdered by her in-laws and his husband for dowry.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that the investigation is on to ascertain the actual cause of the woman’s death.

“We are waiting for the autopsy report while the husband of victim is absconding. However, he will be arrested soon,” an official said.
