Amid overnight clear skies, the minimum temperature plummeted across Kashmir Valley with Gulmarg and Pahalgam recording season’s coldest night at minus 10.0°C and 9.6°C respectively on Monday.

A meteorological department official here said that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.4°C against last night’s 0.5°C. The temperature was 3.3°C below normal for the summer capital, the official said. Srinagar has so far seen the coldest temperature this season on December 25 when mercury plummeted to minus 5.8°C.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 9.6°C against minus 9.4°C on the previous night. The minimum temperature was 3.0°C below normal and the coldest night recorded this season in the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.0°C against minus 8.2°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 3.0°C below normal and this season’s coldest for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the official said.
Jammu recorded a low of 4.2°C against 5.7°C on the previous night. It was 3.1°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Regarding the forecast, the MeT official said mainly clear weather was expected till January 6. “Expect further fall in minimum temperature across J&K,” he said, adding, “On January 7, weather is expected to be cloudy and from January 8-10, weather is expected to be cloudy with possibility of snowfall and rain (in plains of Jammu) at many places of J&K (70% chance).”

1 dead, 5 injured in IED blast in J&K’s Rajouri; 2nd terror attack in 12 hours

A child died while five people were injured in an IED blast which took place in Dhangri village of Rajouri in Jammu. The blast took place at the site where four people were killed in a suspected terror attack yesterday evening evening.

“A blast has taken near the house of the first firing incident. 5 persons are injured. One child has succumbed to injuries. Another critical. Media personnel are requested to be cautious. Another suspected IED spotted which is being cleared. Self with div com and IG CRPF reaching the spot”, Mukesh Singh, additional director general of police, said.

This is the second terror attack in the village less than 12 hours after four civilians were killed and six were injured in a suspected terror attack last evening.

Rishabh Pant reveals reason behind car accident – Check

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, met cricketer Rishabh Pant at the Max Hospital in Dehradun. On December 30, while en route from Delhi to Roorkee, the 25-year-old batsman was involved in an accident after his Mercedes car lost control. According to the Chief Minister, Pant’s health has significantly improved. During the discussion, Pant emphasised that a pothole or other black object on the road was what caused the accident.

Earlier reports suggested that the accident happened because Pant fell asleep at the wheel.

Regarding his further treatment, the wicketkeeper-batsman said that the decision has to be taken by the BCCI and the doctors. “Only they (BCCI and doctors) will decide what to do,” Pant said, adding that he is satisfied with ongoing treatment and there is improvement in his health now.

Chief Minister Dhami also met the doctors treating the cricketer to enquire about his condition. The Chief Minister later met Pant’s family at the hospital, and assured them of all support by the state government for the treatment.

Over 91 Lakh Pilgrims Visited Vaishno Devi Shrine In 2022, Highest In Nine Years

Over 91 lakh pilgrims visited the famous Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir in 2022, the highest in the last nine years, a senior official of the shrine board said on Sunday. Over 23,000 devotees offered prayers at the shrine located atop Trikuta hills on New Year’s Eve.

In a tweet, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board CEO Anshul Garg said, “91.25 lakh devotees paid obeisance at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in 2022, the highest number since the start of Online Individual Yatri registration in 2013. May Mata Rani continue to shower blessings of peace, happiness and prosperity upon all of us.”

According to shrine board data, 23,110 pilgrims offered prayers at the shrine on the last day of 2022.
In 2022, the highest footfall was recorded in June with more than 11.29 lakh pilgrims visiting the temple. At 3.61 lakh, February saw the lowest footfall last year.
In December, 5.67 lakh devotees visited the shrine.

Despite a stampede at the shrine on January 1 last year that left 12 pilgrims dead and 16 injured, over 4.38 lakh devotees visited the temple in the month.

More than 7.78 lakh pilgrims visited in March, over 9.02 lakh in April, over 9.86 lakh in May, over 9.07 lakh in July, over 8.77 lakh in August, over 8.28 lakh in September, over 7.51 lakh in October and over 6.01 lakh in November, according to the data.
Only 17 lakh pilgrims, the lowest in over three decades, visited the shrine in 2020 when it remained closed for five months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Rajouri terror attacks: 3 injured succumb at hospital

Three persons, who were among 10 injured in a firing incident in Dangri village of Rajouri district on Sunday evening, have succumbed to their injuries at GMC Rajouri, officials said here.

An official said  that a firing incident was reported in Dangri village this eveving, creating panic and chaos in the area.

He said in the incident 10 persons were injured and they were rushed to GMC Rajouri for treatment.

He added, however, 3 persons succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, while rest are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, medical superintendent GMC Rajouri, Dr Mehmood told KNO that they 3 persons have died, while are 7 injured in the firing incident in Dangri.

He said the injured with multiple bullet injuries on their bodies are being treated ate the hospital.

Meanwhile, an official said the area is around 7 to 8 kilometres away from main Rajouri town, while
police and army have rushed to the spot.

“We are ascertaining further details about the incident,” he added

Jammu, Jan 01, 2023: Potholes, uncovered drains and un-repaired road at Rahim Nagar chowk in Bhatindi area of Jammu has become a nightmare for the locals, commuters as well as for pedestrians who uses the road stretch for their everyday use, there.

As per the report, some locals at Rahim Nagar chowk showed their concern for the damaged road and its prevailing condition could result in some disastrous accidents, someday.

Mr Naim Ahmed, a local resident, said, “This is indeed shocking! While so many people visited here to witness its condition but still nobody has bothered to repair it. During the incessant rains, this road gets waterlogged and it becomes tough for the school kids, pedestrians and vehicles to cross the road”.

The ward corporator should take cognizance of this damaged road and should come forward to repair it, the report said.

Vision 2023 To Define India At 2047: Dr Jitendra

In a media interaction on the first day of the New Year, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that Vision 2023 will define India at 2047, also because the year 2023 happens to be the first of the last 25 years or the last quarter of the calendar before independent India turns 100 at 2047 and realises its century dreams.

This is also the year, the Minister said, when India under PM Narendra Modi would have an opportunity to reiterate its stature in the international fora as the host of G20 as well as the nation on whose proposal the world is observing the International Year of Millets.

Departments dealing with Science and Technology have already outlined their focus and thrust areas for the year 2023, said Dr Jitendra Singh adding that our scientific achievements are going to have a huge bearing on India’s economy in subsequent years.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, “The future belongs to those who have innovative ideas and out-of-box goals, and have the conviction and courage to achieve the same. The Minister emphasized that today we have a Prime Minister, who not only thinks out of the box, but also inspires 130 crore Indians to take decisions with courage and conviction .

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s penchant for “Innovation”, Dr Jitendra Singh pointed out to his Independence Day address, where he had said, “Till today we always remember our revered Lal Bahadur Shastri ji for his inspirational clarion call of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan meaning “Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer”. Later Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji added a new link of Jai Vigyan which meant “hail science” and we gave it utmost importance. But in this new phase Amrit Kaal, it is imperative to add jai anusandhaan that is “hail innovation”. “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Jai Anusandhaan.”

Dr Jitendra Singh underlined that in the Centre –State Science Conclave held in September, 2022 also, Modi had highlighted that in order to make India a global center of research and innovation in this Amrit Kaal, we have to work on many fronts simultaneously and stressed the need to take science and technology-related research to the local level.

“We are doing our duty to keep the nation safe. Till the time we’re deployed here no infiltration attempt can be successful. No challenge big enough for a soldier,” Army personnel said.

“These jawans are patrolling of fence despite heavy snowfall and minus temperature. They can’t give any chance to the enemies to cross the fence, where chances of ceasefire violations are very high in this area,” said Army Major at LOC.

Jammu, January 01, 2023: Scores of ‘Rehbar-e-Khel’ Teachers on Sunday staged an agitation and took out a funeral march in favour of their demands in Jammu.

The agitators were seen chanting ‘Ram Ka Naam Satya Hai’ (Lord Ram’s name is the truth) and holding a charpoy on their shoulders with a dummy pyre on it they were carrying out the protest against the local regime demanding reduction of probation period from (7 to 5) years, enchancement in salaries and cancellation of order (GAD-/1/2021-02(13125) to deliever justice to them.

According to the report, under the banner of ‘Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers Association’, the protestors were holding a banner to remind Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha promises, which he committed with their delegation at Raj Bhavan earlier in the month of may.

The agitators promised to intensify their protest in the coming days, if their demands are not addressed on time by the local govt.

Price of LPG Cylinder Increased! Check New Rates Here

New Delhi: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have given a big shock to customers on the first day of New Year 2023 by increasing the price of LPG cylinder. They have increased the prices up to Rs 25 for the commercial cylinders. However, the rates of domestic cylinder haven’t been changed and they will sell at their existing prices.

Prices of commercial LPG cylinder hike:

OMCs changed the rates of commercial cylinder from January 1, 2023 by increasing up to Rs 25. The move will make it costlier to dine out at restaurants, hotels, etc. However, it won’t impact the budget of commoners as the prices of domestic LPG cylinder remain unchanged.

OMCs increased the prices of domestic cylinder last time in July 6 2022. It was increased to Rs 153.5 cumulatively. Prices were hiked four times. OMCs first increased Rs 50 in March 2022, then it again hiked Rs 50 and Rs 3.50 in May month. Finally, it hiked the prices of domestic cylinder by Rs 50 in July last year.
