J&K Woman cricketer sold in ‘WPL’  for lakhs

 

Jasia Akhter, a woman cricketer from Kashmir valley, was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 20 lakhs during an auction held in Mumbai on Monday.

Delhi Capitals confirmed the development through a tweet that described the Kashmiri cricketer as Jasia Jaisi Koi nahi on their official Twitter handle.

Jasia Akhtar, a resident of Braripora village, some 63 kms south of Srinagar – the Kashmir’s region’s main city, made her foray into women’s T20 cricket in 2019 when the she found a place in the Women’s T20 Challenge Squads for an upcoming tournament announced by the Board for Control of Cricket in India.

Akhter used to be an athlete before she was introduced to cricket by an athletic coach.

Jammu: Several students of GGM Science college on Monday alleged that stones were pelted at them by students residing in hostels, when they were standing in the college premises after the exams.

As per report, the matter came to light when several students appeared before the media & narrated the incident.

Talking to the media, a student, said, ” We had our internal exams today  and after giving it, we came out from exam halls & were discussing the paper quietly”.

“All of a sudden hundreds of students came from hostel & began stone pelting at us, the stones were big in size & some girls are hurt”, he added.

“They pelted stones at us & ran away, no  one said anything, some stones hit girls head”, one of student said.

“The hostel-students wants to show their dominance on us, that’s why they pelted stones at us”, another student said.

“Some outsiders might have come here as there are many play grounds here and this college also has multiple exits”, a GGM College staff member said.

“We’re installing cameras within the college campus and our security arrangement is strong. This a heritage college and it is being renovated & no student is hurt”, he asserted.

“They are good students and no one is injured”, he added.

“I’m a member of college’s ABVP student unit,  some students sustained minor wounds & we condemned this incident and the college regime has given us assurance of strict action”, another student said.

“I’m hurt and my leg is wounded when I was trying to save the students from pelting. Some students are being nursed”, a student said.

“We have submitted applications opposing such events to college regime earlier also, but they took no action”, he added.

“We went to hostel to talk to them, they began throwing liquor bottles at us. They turned hostel a ‘bar’, another student allegedly said.

Jammu: After the news that huge deposits of Lithium have been found in Jammu’s Reasi district, a terror group known as PAFF – which is a front of the Jaish-E-Muhammad – has issued a threat against the mining of deposits on Monday.

As per report, the PAFF has said that it won’t allow Indian firms to mine the deposits in J&K.

Jammu: A 26-year-old woman was found dead today inside her rented accommodation in Teli Basti area of Bari Brahmana, Jammu on Monday.

The report has said that a body of a woman was found hanged to a ceiling fan mysteriously in her room.

After the incident, the family of the deceased informed the police and they reached at the scene of incident and took the body down from the ceiling fan.

After that the police took the victim’s body in their custody and sent it for the autopsy in GMC, Jammu.

It is yet to be discovered by the police that this is a suicide case or not, the report said.

The police is currently investigating this matter and a case under 174 section of the IPC has been registered at the police station in Bari Brahmana.

Jammu and Kashmir put up a spectacular show on 3rd day of Khelo India winter Games with one gold each in Figure Skaters Girls event (15-19 age group), Junior Girls Long Distance Competition and Alpine Category 01 Boys as Sunny weather blessed Gulmarg on Sunday and all the events scheduled for the day were conducted smoothly at all the venues.

The sports events fixed for 3rd day of Winter Games included Ice Stock, Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Bandy Curling, Bobsleighing & Skelton, Snow Shoe, Nordic, Ski Mountaineering, Alpine G Slalom and Cross Country.

During the events, a huge number of spectators clapped and shouted to extend support to their favourite teams. Meanwhile, winners were awarded prizes by the officers and officials of J&K Sports Councils after winning top position by defeating opponent teams and players.

Earlier in Bandy, Gujarat won first position, Haryana second position while Maharashtra satisfied with third position. Similarly, in Ice Skating of 1000 m for the Senior Girls category, Swarali Ashutosh Deo of Maharashtra achieved 1st position, Raina Kukreja of Haryana got 2nd position and Anushka Merchant of Haryana obtained 3rd position.

In the same event of Senior Men, Suyog Sanjay Tapkir of Maharashtra wrested 1st position, Anubhav Gupta from UP and Padma Gurmeet of Ladakh got 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.

In Figure Skaters event of Boys (13-15 years), Kapish Kaushik and Utkarsh Saxena both players from Haryana got first and second positions respectively while Ayush Jaguri of Uttrakhand had to satisfy with 3rd position.

In Figure Skaters Girls (15-19 years), Wafa Tariq from J&K topped, followed by Chelsi Singh of Haryana, who won 2nd position and Shezan Wani (J&K) secured 3rd position. Also, in Figure Skaters Senior Girls category, Kashish Sharma stayed at top while Suyog Sanjay Tapkir obtained top position in Speed Skaters in Senior Men category.

Aman Thakur (HAWS) got gold medal in Senior Men Long Distance competition, Ghulam Haider (Ladakh) won gold in Junior Boys Long Distance competition, Dhanalaksmi (Karnataka) received Gold in Senior Women Long Distance category and Sara (J&K) bagged Gold in Junior Girls Long Distance.

In Nordic 15 km (Men), Shubham Parihar (Army Red) got 1st position and in Nordic 1.5 km (Junior Girls), Shabnum (HP) scaled top position. Farhat Shabir (J&K) and Priyanshu Kawan (UK) achieved first position in Alpine Catogery 01 Boys and Alpine Category 02 Boys, respectively.

Secretary J&K Sports council while speaking at Kongdoori said that all the events are going as per schedule at all the venues.

Jammu: Locals apprehended a thief who was stealing goods from shops in Talab Tillo market on  Monday.

The report said that a notorious burglar who was stealing goods from shops in Talab Tillo was caught by locals, they also alleged that this burglar has robbed several shops in their market.

“He stole five money garlands from my younger brother’s shop”, a local shopkeeper said while pointing fingers at the thief.

“He has stolen money garlands of worth Rs 3100, Rs 2100, and two of Rs 2,000 sharp at 2:09pm, yesterday, and when police went to arrest him in his house he escaped from there”, a local shopkeeper said.

“This burglar has robbed several shops here and he has not spared even a single one”, he said.

Reiterating the importance of education, a bride showed up for her practical exam in her wedding dress with a lab coat and a stethoscope around her neck in Kerala.

A video of the same was recorded and posted online. As expected, it has gone viral on social media platforms and received thunderous applause from netizens.

“Medicos life. Exam and wedding in one day,” read the caption of the video shared on Instagram.

The video captures a bride named Shree Lekshmi Anil, a student of Bethany Navajeevan College of Physiotherapy Kerala, in a bright yellow coloured saree and heavy wedding jewelry.

As she enters the class, she waves at other students and is met with laughter and cheers. A text inserted on the video reads, “When bride attends the practicals.”

In a separate video, the bride can be seen studying for her practical exam on her way to the exam centre. As she reaches the college, one of her friends can be seen adjusting the pleats of her saree and putting a stethoscope around her neck. The bride can be seen putting on her lab coat over her wedding attire.

As per report, She then enters the classroom. Towards the end of the clip, the bride can be seen coming out of the exam centre, hugging her mother and leaving for her wedding venue.

Since being shared, both videos have raked up more than 2 million views, and the numbers are still increasing.

“Damn… I totally understand. My exams were so close to my wedding date. I thought even I had to go write exams on my wedding day ..but thankfully I was done with exams 3 days before the wedding,” wrote an Instagram user.

Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Amod Nagpure Monday said that Pakistan based handlers under well hatched conspiracy are using smugglers to push drugs inside J&K to spread drug addiction among youth.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Baramulla said that the Police have arrested four such drug suppliers along with contraband material and cash.

He said on a specific information regarding smuggling of narcotics in Kamalkote area of Uri in Baramulla, a Naka was established at Sultan Daki area and during checking, a vehicle was signaled to stop but it tried to flee and was tactfully stopped.

“Later, four people were arrested along with 1.17 Kgs of Brown Sugar and a cash of Rs.25.39 Lacs. They have been idetified as Naseer Ahmad Bhatti son of Nazar Din Bhatti, Mohd Pazeer son of Abdul Majeed Khanday, Reyaz Ahmad Khanday and Fayaz Ahmad Khanday son’s of Mohammed Sharief Khanday–all residents of Uri.”

The SSP, while terming the arrest of four smugglers a big catch, said they have got more leads and more such modules are expected to be busted soon.

He also said their network is so strong and they are making every possible efforts to stop drugs entering J&K. “It’s all due to the people’s support and cooperation, such modules are being busted”, he said.

“We have identified the hotspots and will be using technical as well as human intelligence for such operations in future”, he said.

On being asked why drug peddlers are seen free after remaining in lockups, he said, that they get out on bail and police are using a method that whoever will get bail is booked under PSA so that he would remain in the preventive custody.

Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two Jash-e-Mohammad terrorists associates along with huge cache of arms and ammunition in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

 

Quoting a police handout,  a local news agency reported that on specific input regarding delivery of consignment of weapons in general area of Pulwama , a special team of Pulwama Police & Army ( 55RR) was formed and deployed in covert at different suspicious locations.

At Naina Bhatpora jurisdiction of PS Litter, two scooty born suspect were seen moving along with the consignment bag. The covert team swung into action and tactfully nabbed the duo and recovered the cache.

According to the police spokesman, the two suspects disclosed their name as Showkat Ahmed Digoo son of Abdul Wahab Digoo resident of Naina (30) driver by profession and his cousin name held (Juvenile) resident of Sethar.

While questioning Showkat Ahmed disclosed that he was in contact with Jailed OGW Firdous Ahmed Bhat S/O Abdul Ahad Bhat R/O Naina presently lodged in central Jail Rajouri in case FIR No 118/2021 of P/S Litter. Suspect was working for JeM outfit and this huge cache of Arms and ammunition recovered was for further distribution and to carry out attacks on Police and security forces.

The details of recovery are as 25 Chinese Grenade, one Pistol, 02 Pistol Magazines, 230 Catridges of Pistol, 10 AK Magazine and 300 AK Cartridges, read the statement.
