Army announces new recruitment procedure for JCOs/OR

The Indian Army has announced a new recruitment procedure for Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks (JCO/OR), which includes an online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) as the first filter.

Addressing media persons here, Colonel Sumit Singh said in the stage I, candidates who have registered and applied online on joinindianarmy.nic.in, will undergo the CEE, which is a computer-based exam.

The shortlisted candidates, he said, will then be called for a recruitment rally at locations decided by respective AROs, where they will undergo physical fitness and measurement tests in stage II.
“Finally, in stage III, the selected candidates will undergo a medical test at the rally location,” said Col Singh

He further said that the online registration on JIA website is open from February 16 to Mar 15, 2023.

He said candidates can register using their Aadhar Card or their class 10th certificate.
“As part of continued automation, the Join Indian Army website has now been linked with Digilocker for greater transparency,” Col Sumit Singh said.
According to him, the online CEE is being conducted at 176 locations across India, and candidates have the choice to select five exam locations.

“The fee for the online CEE is Rs 500 per candidate, with 50% of the cost being borne by the Army. At the end of the registration process, candidates will be directed to a payment portal. Candidates are required to pay Rs 250 along with associated bank charges, and once their payment is successful, a roll number will be generated that shall be used at all stages of recruitment,” Col Sumit Singh said.

He added that the admit cards for the CEE will be available on Join Indian Army website 10-14 days prior to the examination.

The online CEE is a computer-based exam, and there is no change in the syllabus and pattern of the exam. To assist the candidates to prepare for the online CEE, practice tests for all categories have been developed, and candidates can practice appearing in the exam from their homes.
“Based on their performance in the online CEE, shortlisted candidates will be called to nominated venues for recruitment rallies. The procedure of recruitment rallies remains unchanged, and the final merit will be based on the online CEE result and physical test marks,” Col Sumit Singh further said.

He said that a helpdesk has also been established to clarify any doubts of the candidates, and for queries related to online CEE, they can also be clarified on mobile No 7996157222.
“The changed procedure will focus on enhanced cognitive aspects during recruitment and will result in wider and better outreach across the country. It will also reduce large crowds assembling at Recruiting Rallies and reduce the administrative arrangements therein. The process will become more streamlined, simpler for candidates to appear, and is in synchronization with current technological advancements of the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, candidates are advised not to fall prey to touts, as the recruitment into the IA remains completely unbiased, impartial, and merit-based.

Why educating women is necessary ?

Gracy Anand

Since ancient times women have not been denied legal, social, and educational rights in India but certainly in practice they have been more preoccupied and confined to domestic affairs and that is where their social subordination began.

Despite such subjugation, women have survived important roles such as bold householders, strong mothers, queens, administrators, warriors, elected representatives and leaders. Therefore, despite oppression and denial, India has, time and again, truly experienced the shakti of this female creative force.

India is considered as one of the world greatest democracies and world’s fastest growing economy ;an achievement only made possible through ensuring education for all and gender equality.

Promoting women education and ensuring female literacy have been the major factors behind India’s success. The statistics reveal an unprecedented growth in development and women education in the past few decades- India is progressing fast towards her never seen before socio economic development as more and more Indian women are becoming part of its economy; through, their education and empowerment.

It’s well said that any society that denies and discourages women from boldly participating in the learning process is only encouraging biased patterns that are deeply rooted in promoting the influential masculine identity.

“When a girl is educated, she is empowered. She can make her own decisions, raise the standard of living for her family and children, create more job opportunities, and reform society as a whole. As a result, a shift in attitudes toward girl child education in India is urgently needed. Every girl child deserves to be treated with love and respect. If all girls complete their education and participate in the workforce, India could add a whopping $770 billion to the country’s GDP by 2025!”

Things we lag and need to improve –

  1. Gender Discrimination

While we progress fast to become world’s super power one day; gender inequality is the reality that screams in our society even today. Even the educated and working urban women are not aloof from the experiences of gender bias, not to mention the women in rural areas.

  1. Crime against women

Women of India are much more susceptible to violence and threat than the men. Many crimes against women are still prevalent in Indian society, like- dowry, domestic violence, flesh trade, sexual harassment etc. such crimes only restrict the women folk to step out of their houses and enter schools or even offices, for that matter.

  1. Lack of Security

Women working even in the safest cities of the country, lack the courage to transit alone during late night hours. Such incidents are also responsible for high female school dropout rate. It is the responsibility of the government and the society as well to ensure a girl’s safe transit to school, ensuring her education.

An educated woman is like a magic wand which brings prosperity, health and pride. We just have to unleash her potential and see the magic happen. Factors restricting the growth of women education in India are mainly societal, and we need to recognize them and eliminate them, if we want to achieve the goals of socio-economic development.

Farmer travels 70 kms, earns Rs. 2 on selling 512 kg onion

In yet another disheartening incident, a 58-year-old onion farmer from Maharashtra travelled 70 km from his village to the Solapur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) to sell his 512 kgs of onion produce. After all the efforts, Rajendra Tukaram Chavan could sell the onions only for Re 1 per kg. And after the deductions, his revenue was Rs 2.49 out of Rs. 512.

Chavan said that the APMC trader deducted Rs 509.5 from Rs 512 as transportation, head-loading and weighing fees. The 49 paise will not show up in the cheque as bank transactions are usually in round figures.

Besides, the cheque for Rs 2 that he received will be encashed only after 15 days and Chavan can only take it from the trader, but he feels it is not worth the effort. He added that last year, he sold the onions for Rs 20 per kg.

The disheartened farmer said that he spent around Rs 40,000 to grow the onions as the price of seeds and fertilisers has doubled in the last few years.

But a massive produce this year brought a huge dip in the wholesale prices. Due to this, Nashik’s Lasalgaon APMC saw a dip of around 70 per cent in the onion purchase price.

The trader who bought the onions from Chavan said that the produce this year was of low quality. Earlier, Chavan had brought high-quality onions that were sold at Rs 18 per kg and another batch was sold at Rs 14 per kg, he said.
