              Cong MP gives notice on conman arrested in Kashmir

Congress Member Shaktisinh Gohil on Monday moved a suspension of business notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the issue of a conman who was arrested in Kashmir for posing as PMO official.

“How Kiran Patel was provided with a Z-plus security cover and was allowed to go to areas which are at borders,” the notice read.

Arrested on Thursday for posing as a top official of the PMO, Patel was on his third “VVIP” visit to Jammu and Kashmir when his luck failed him, an official said on Friday.

He was picked up from the Lalit Grand Palace Hotel in Srinagar after the police got suspicious about his credentials.

Meet So Dee, the singer-composer from Jammu who has recently given the Indian youth a lot to cheer about with his debut song “Who Knows” with renowned singer and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

A student of DPS Jammu and Lawrence School Sanawar, So Dee graduated from London and has worked in a bank in London. He is a business entrepreneur and a singer by heart and soul. During COVID 19, having nothing much to do, he decided to fulfill his musical ambitions and let out his passion in singing. So Dee has been working since a year on writing, composing and singing his own songs and post COVID, went all the way to Dubai to work on his debut project.

Yo Yo honey Singh who is the country’s top rapper, singer and composer met him on one occasion and liked his voice, composition, and lyrics greatly and so invited him to release his debut together. The song “Who Knows” was hence shot in Dubai together with Yo Yo Honey Singh and released on 13 March. It became one of the single most liked, viewed, and shared song of the season, kickstarted with millions of viewers world-wide and gained several million admirers within a span of few hours.

Talking to this reporter, So Dee said, “I am thankful to Yo Yo Honey Singh, and the entire team who especially listened to my song and encouraged me for making a debut with him. After the song was released, my spirits are high and I feel very much motivated.”

He further said, “ I have 2 big songs coming very soon, and I will share them with you all in

the coming months .” Speaking about Who Knows song, So Dee said, “This song which I have written and composed music for is just me and my heart, reflecting my quest for knowing more about the person residing inside me.” So Dee thanked his friends and family for their constant support and encouragement.

Being very attached to Jammu city, So Dee feels humbled by the love, blessings and support received from the countless people of Jammu & Kashmir who have recently viewed, appreciated ,shared and commented on his debut song, making him one of the most popular debut singers of the Jammu city. So Dee promises to give back to this city through his music and dedicate some of his future compositions to the people of the city.

Weather was inclement in J&K during the last 24 hours. The MeT office said on Monday that scattered light or moderate rain is likely during the next 24 hours.

“Scattered light to moderate rain is likely in J&K during the next 24 hours,” an official of the MeT department said.

Srinagar had 7.2, Pahalgam 2.6 and Gulmarg minus 0.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today.

In Ladakh region, Drass town had minus 1.1, Kargil minus 4.2 and Leh minus 1.5 degrees as the minimum temperature.

Jammu had 14.7, Katra 14.1, Batote 6.9, Banihal 6.2 and Bhaderwah 7 as the minimum temperature.

Jammu: A massive fire broke in a mobile shop situated in Raghunath bazar in Jammu yesterday in which huge quantity of goods worth lakhs kept in the shop got burnt during the fire.

As per the report, the fire broke out around 2:30am late in the night through the overhead cables which were dangling from an electric pole near the shop and which resulted in a menacingly blaze after the wires caught fire, after which nearby hotel and also sign boards of adjoining shop got burnt.

“I’m Arun’s brother Around 2:30 in the night watchman called and told me that our shop has  caught fire and we should come to douse it”, said, Mr Bhushan Kumar, shop owner whose brother’s shop was burnt.

“We arrived at the shop and along with us police and fire brigade also arrived to control the blaze, there was short circuit which sparked fire”, he added.

“There was massive blaze which burnt upper floor of the nearby hotel, we’re lucky that fire didn’t spread inside this shop, the power dept should take notice of vines of wire dangling from the pole, which caused this blaze”, he said.

“Our watchman informed us about the blaze in our shop and he also apprised police and fire rescuers. The blaze spread through the short circuit pole in our shop from the electric meter”, said, Mr Ashish Gupta whose mobile shop is burnt.

“We saw the fire has taken a formidable form the moment we opened the shop’s shutter, it was very difficult to control it”, he added.

“We have suffered a major loss and the fire has spared nothing, I’m not able to estimate the loss I have suffered, it is in lakhs”, he alleged.

“The power dept employees came and removed all the meters from the electric poles, there is too much load and wires on the poles here”, he asserted.

‘The PDD dept must solve this matter of dangling wires on the pole to make Jammu smart city, there were tourists in a nearby hotel which were also stuck in fire and they were rescued by the police”, he said.

“We evacuated all the customers from the hotel and we pulled all the customers safely from the hotel, we were afraid but we saved them”, Owner of the hotel said.

“The main cause of fire incidents is short circuit which triggers blazes here and every then and now these incidents takes place here”, General Secretary of Raghunath Bazar said.

“We have also filed complaints to the concerned dept, they come and make temporary repairs and go back, but the situation remains unchanged”, he added.

“We have apprised the PDD dept many times but all went in vain and today a major incident has took place and they suffered huge loss”, he alleged.

“Its a big negligence of power dept as there are hotels here in which tourists were sleeping, the hotel workers rescued them along with the watchman, the shopkeeper has suffered a huge loss, who will pay him”, he further said.

“The eyewitness workers of the hotel were saying there were huge inferno here but even after that the power dept failed to cut off the electricity supply here on time”, he claimed.

Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday said that providing a security cover and bullet proof vehicle to a conman from Gujrat who posed himself as a PMO official, was not an intelligence failure but a “mistake” which is being investigated.

“We don’t provide security cover to anyone on verbal communique or order,” ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told reporters, as reported by a local news agency on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar.

He said that a team led by a senior IPS officer raided a hotel and arrested the conman and recovered fake visiting cards from him. “A proper FIR has been lodged and the conman was interrogated. At present he is behind the bars under judicial remand,” the ADGP said.

He said that J&K police are in touch with the Gujarat police. Asked whether providing security cover to Conman was a security lapse and intelligence failure, the ADGP said: “It was not an intelligence failure but yes a mistake for sure which is being investigated.” He, however, said that any officer who ordered for providing security to the Conman will be dealt with.

About the query about possible rise in the crime rate, he said that there is no surge in the crime rate but there is an increase in reporting the crimes by the people who trust police for its thorough investigations. “Crime cases are being investigated thoroughly and culprits are being arrested and punished as well,” he said.

On attaching the properties, he said that property used for terrorist activity or used by terrorists for shelter will be attached be that a vehicle, building or a house.

Jammu: A dozen children got severely hurt when they met with a road mishap near High school Keri in Mendhar area of Poonch district, Jammu on Sunday.

As per sources, The mishap occurred when an eco car which was carrying students met with a accident near High school Keri in Mendhar.

Thirteen students have sustained wounds in this mishap when an overloaded Eco Van ‘JK12C0613’ skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Pooch, they were rushed by the locals to Sub District Hospital Mendhar, where they are currently being treated by the doctors.

Fourteen people including six girls and seven male students were hurt when an “overloaded” eco-vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Poonch district on Sunday, officials said.

They said the accident took place near Keri Kangra in Mendhar Poonch when the driver of the Eco Van (JK12C-O613) lost control over it and the vehicle rolled down many feet into a gorge, leading to the injuries to 14 people— six of them females and eight males.

The injured, 13 of them being minors and one major, were immediately rushed to the local Sub District hospital Mendhar by the locals and police and 2 of them were later shifted to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment.

The injured have been identified as Mishba Kousar (16), Fahim Kouser (15), Zahira (20), Qasid Rashid (15), Adid Hussain (16), Danish Shah (17), Rukhsana (15), Muskan Basharat (14) Uzma Kouser (16), Mujtab Shah (20), Hassan Ali Shah (16), Asees Ahmad (16), Mohammad Layaqat and Mohammad Zamran (25), all residents of Rya.

A police official said that a case has been registered and further investigations taken up.

After qualifying the exam, the District Administration and LG Government both awarded certificates to the siblings. They were also awarded certificates by the Indian Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

“We have face so many predicaments in our life, but we have full faith on Almighty, we have put all our efforts to crack this exam and God has a plan for everybody”, Umar told media.

“Our mother supported us since infancy. She is so supportive of us and used to push us in sports and extra-curricular activities to encourage us ahead in our excursion”, he added.

“I want to complete my studies at AIIMS and after that I want to come back in my Pir Panjal region to serve my people as they can’t afford treatment outside J-K in big cities”, he remarked.

“Rajouri is a border area and to reach in such a mega and famed institution of the country is a huge thing for us”, Iram told media confidently.

“I will do my best in the institution and will help people of my community and my residents of J-K in general”, she added.

LG lays foundation stone for Rs 250 crore Mall, says first ‘direct foreign      investment in J&K’

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday laid the foundation stone for the first direct foreign investment project at Sempora area of Srinagar where a mega-mall will come up at the whopping Rs 250 crore.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, the LG said that today is the historic day for the J&K as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) based EMAAR Group has decided to invest Rs 250 Crore to set up a mega-mall on the 10 lakh square feet area at Sempora, Srinagar. “This is a moment of pride. The Emaar group will also invest in setting up IT towers in Jammu and Srinagar, besides the mall and total investment by the group will touch Rs 500 Crore,”.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, the LG said that the investment made by the Emaar group is just a beginning. He urged the EMAAR group to ensure the completion of the mall within the shortest possible time.

The LG said that some people have a negative mindset in J&K and continue to criticize the government policies as they can’t digest the huge development taking place in the UT. “J&K has witnessed a huge sea change post August 5, 2019. The government land was kept under illegal possession by some people that was retrieved. The land retrieved will be used for setting up industries, playgrounds for youth and graveyards for the people,” he said.

The LG said that J&K was getting the cheapest power in the country. “J&K is the first place after Telangana to have first Women Entrepreneur Institute (WEI),” he said.

Generally cloudy weather with light rain has been forecast at isolated to scattered places in Kashmir Valley in next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official said that generally cloudy weather was expected from March 21-22.

From March 23 to 25, he said, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected. From March 26 to 28, he said, partly cloudy weather was expected.

He said Srinagar received 0.2mm of rain in 24 hours till 0830 hours, Qazigund 15.0mm, Pahalgam 0.5mm, Kupwara 0.7mm, Kokernag 19.8mm, Gulmarag 1.6mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 33.2m, Batote 2.4mm, Katra 4.4mm and Bhaderwah 0.8mm.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.5°C against 6.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the summer capital.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.4°C against 0.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.5°C against 4.8°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 14.2°C against 15.2°C on the previous night. It was 0.7°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Ladakh’s Leh, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.2°C.

Jammu: A 30-year-old man was crushed by an overspeeding Matador on Bishnah road this morning.

The deceased was identified as Jasvir Singh (30), a resident of Chuha Chak in Bishnah. According to  the report, he was on his way to the factory in Bari Barhmana where he was employed and then a speeding Matador bearing registration ‘JK02BM5297’ came and hit him.

The overspeeding Matador hit his bike bearing registration number ‘JK13G1562’ and left him in a pool of blood in a fraction of a second.

After the mishap, the Bishnah police also reached on the crime scene and launched a probe into the case.

The driver of the matador who fled after hitting the victim is still on the run and police is searching his whereabouts.
