Srinagar, Dec 12: Saleem Wani

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is scheduled to visit Gulmarg on December 13, 2025, for a day-long programme during which he will inaugurate several major tourism and infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the region’s winter preparedness, tourist capacity, and developmental outreach.

According to sources, the Chief Minister’s visit carries significant administrative importance as multiple departments—including Tourism, Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), and J&K Cable Car Corporation—have lined up key projects for inauguration, review, and foundation laying.
The visit will begin with foundation-laying and inauguration ceremonies at Kongdori and Affarwat, organised by the J&K Cable Car Corporation.

These projects are understood to focus on upgrading ropeway infrastructure, improving safety systems, strengthening mobility for tourists, and enhancing facilities at one of Kashmir’s most important winter tourism destinations.
Sources added that the Cable Car Corporation has been working on multiple components ahead of the winter season, making the Chief Minister’s presence at these inaugurations especially significant.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the fencing project at the Gulmarg Golf Course, one of the highest golf courses in the world.
Officials say the fencing project is expected to improve safety, protect the landscape, and support upcoming international-level events planned in the tourism calendar.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts to revive and maintain heritage recreational spaces in Gulmarg.
Following these engagements, the Chief Minister will attend a meeting at the Convention Centre, Gulmarg, organised by the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA).

The meeting is expected to include:
• Progress review of ongoing development works
• Assessment of GDA’s winter preparedness plan
• Discussions on tourist management during peak snowfall
• Directions for infrastructure strengthening, cleanliness, and safety measures
Top officials from the Tourism Department, GDA, and district administration are likely to participate.

Govt Counters Rahul Gandhi, Says 5 of 8 Picks From Disadvantaged Sections

New Delhi, Dec 12: Government sources have countered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks regarding the latest appointments to the Central Information Commission (CIC), stating that five of the eight shortlisted candidates belong to disadvantaged communities, including SC, ST, OBC, minority and women categories.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had reportedly recorded his dissent during a meeting of the high-level selection committee — comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and himself — held on Wednesday to finalise the next Chief Information Commissioner and eight Information Commissioners.

However, sources said the committee finalised eight names, and the Centre ensured representation from diverse sections: one SC, one ST, one OBC, one minority candidate, and one woman among the eight shortlisted.
They emphasised that five of the eight candidates recommended for the Information Commissioner posts are from disadvantaged groups.

Sources further highlighted that from 2005 to 2014, during the UPA tenure, no SC/ST individual was appointed as either CIC member or chief. The NDA government, they noted, appointed Suresh Chandra (ST) in 2018, and in 2020, appointed Heeralal Samariya (SC) as Information Commissioner, who later became the first-ever Chief Information Commissioner from the SC community in 2023.

Rajasthan HC Seeks Saudi Response on Month-Long Delay in Sending Back Youth’s Body

Jodhpur, Rajasthan: In a rare diplomatic move, the Rajasthan High Court has issued a notice to the Saudi Arabian Embassy in New Delhi after the body of a Rajasthan youth, who died in Saudi Arabia nearly a month ago, was not repatriated despite repeated appeals from the grieving family.
The deceased, Ramesh Kumar Meghwal, a resident of Balotra district, died under suspicious circumstances in Saudi Arabia on November 13. Nearly 28 days later, his mortal remains have not been sent back, pushing the family into deep distress.

His mother, Teeju Bai, approached the Rajasthan High Court seeking urgent intervention. Acting on her petition, Justice Nupur Bhati on Thursday issued notices to:
• Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, New Delhi
• Government of India through Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri
• Joint Secretary (Gulf Countries), Ministry of External Affairs
• Government of Rajasthan through its Home Secretary
Legal observers say issuing such a notice to a foreign government is uncommon, especially in humanitarian matters, and underscores the seriousness of the situation.
The matter will be heard again on December 17.
The prolonged delay was initially taken up by Charmesh Sharma, former Director of the Rajasthan Seeds Corporation, who has been assisting distressed Indians abroad. He filed complaints with the President’s Secretariat, National Human Rights Commission, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Following his intervention, the MEA informed him on November 26 that:
• The Saudi Police are still investigating the case.
• The body will be released only after a forensic medical report is completed.
• The Indian Embassy can issue an NOC for repatriation only after receiving the body.
On December 3, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh issued a death certificate, stating the cause of death as suicide. However, due to the pending forensic report, the Embassy said it remains unable to facilitate the return of the mortal remains.
With no progress for weeks, the family sought legal recourse. Ramesh’s mother filed the petition through advocates Sushil Vishnoi and Sunil Purohit, pleading for the immediate repatriation of her son’s body.
ASG Bharat Vyas appeared for the Union Government during the preliminary hearing.
As the family continues to wait, the High Court’s intervention has offered a glimmer of hope — and placed the responsibility on both governments to act swiftly in a matter that has become a humanitarian concern.

Srinagar, Dec 12: The Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet against a Public Works Department employee accused of forging his date of birth to secure illegal regularisation. The charge sheet in Case FIR No. 07 of 2022 under sections 420, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Handwara on December 11.

The case originated from an official communication by the Public Works Department seeking investigation into the alleged fake date of birth of Abdul Rashid Lone, son of Muhammad Ahsan Lone of Chogal Handwara, who had been serving as a Helper in the R&B Division. Following the complaint, Crime Branch Kashmir initiated a preliminary enquiry.

Investigators found that at the time of his regularisation, the accused had produced a medical certificate showing his date of birth as April 1, 1968. Verification, however, revealed that the school records documented his date of birth as April 4, 1950. In view of the contradiction, a formal FIR was registered and a detailed investigation was taken up.

According to the Crime Branch, the probe established that the accused, acting in a criminal conspiracy, fabricated and used a forged date of birth certificate to obtain undue service benefits. The investigation also indicated prima facie evidence of cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence.

Officials said the charge sheet has now been placed before the court for judicial scrutiny. The Special Crime Wing reiterated that attempts to falsify records for personal gain will face strict legal action and stated that it remains committed to transparent and thorough investigations in all such cases.

New Delhi , Dec 11 : Rahul Gandhi chaired a review meeting of Congress Lok Sabha MPs on Friday to discuss the ongoing parliamentary session and the party’s strategy in the House. The Congress currently has 99 MPs in the Lok Sabha.

The meeting came a day after Rahul Gandhi renewed his criticism of Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the minister did not respond to his questions during the debate on election reforms. Rahul Gandhi said Shah appeared uneasy during his speech and avoided giving proof to counter the allegations raised. He also challenged Shah to hold a discussion on his earlier press conferences inside Parliament.

Congress MP Tanuj Punia said the Home Minister sidestepped the real issues, including those related to Haryana, and focused instead on attacking the Congress.

The BJP responded sharply, accusing Rahul Gandhi of using “hit and run” tactics. Union Minister Giriraj Singh said Rahul leaves the House whenever the Prime Minister or the Home Minister speaks and claimed he could not face the points raised by Amit Shah.

The exchanges followed a heated argument in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday between Amit Shah and Rahul Gandhi over allegations of “vote chori.”

However, despite the cancellations, authorities at Srinagar International Airport assured that all necessary arrangements have been made for Umrah pilgrims, ensuring their smooth facilitation and onward journey.

According to the airport’s updated schedule for 12 December 2025, Indigo and other airlines reported a total of six flight cancellations.

Indigo Cancellations

Indigo cancelled four flights on Thursday.

6E 6165, scheduled to depart at 09:45 AM for Amritsar,

Two additional flights were also cancelled:

Airport officials said that affected passengers were being notified directly by the respective airlines, and alternative arrangements—including rescheduling and refund options—were being offered as per standard protocol.

Special Arrangements for Umrah Pilgrims

In the midst of these disruptions, authorities confirmed that all arrangements had been put in place for Umrah pilgrims travelling from Srinagar. Dedicated counters, priority baggage support, and coordination teams were deployed to assist pilgrims in completing travel formalities without difficulty.

Airport officials said that despite the cancelled flights, the special Umrah travel schedule remained unaffected, and pilgrims were provided timely updates and guidance. “Our teams are on the ground to ensure every pilgrim receives proper support. No Umrah passenger will face any difficulty,” an airport spokesperson said.

Authorities have also urged passengers to stay updated through airline notifications and avoid unnecessary travel to the airport without flight confirmation.

The situation is being monitored closely, and normal flight operations are expected to resume without further disruptions.
