Jammu: Locals vexed over damaged graveyard

Jammu:
Several local residents yesterday showed resentment when a graveyard got damaged near Mughal road in Poonch.

As per report, the incident happened when road construction work was going on at Behramgala situated near the Mughal road in Chandimarh area of Poonch  when a landslide hit a graveyard and damaged it, following which the local residents arrived at the spot and expressed anger.

After the incident the locals came on the spot and blocked the road and showed resentment alleging that the graveyard consisted 40 graves, which has been vandalised  now.

“The Junior Engineer  (JE) told us that the graveyard will not be harmed. I told them to not do anything here my grandmother and uncle is buried here but the JE forcefully brought machines and pressed it into service.

“There were 40 graves here”, a local man said.

The locals demanded action against the contractor from the local authorities. However, the local authorities have said that a committee would be formed to look into the matter and a legal action will be taken against  the accused.
