Police freezed properties worth crores of peddler in J&K
In a significant development, Sopore Police took decisive action against an individual involved in drug trafficking, resulting in the freezing and forfeiture proceedings of a substantial amount of illegally acquired wealth under the NDPS Act.
On August 29, 2023, the diligent officers at Police Station Bomai, of the esteemed Police District Sopore, were diligently investigating FIR No. 26 of 2023 U/Ss. 8/22 of the NDPS Act, pertaining to notorious drug trafficker Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat and resident of Umerabad HMT, Srinagar. The authorities successfully apprehended Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, who was found in conscious possession of 350 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, each bottle measuring 100 ml.

During the course of their comprehensive investigation, the Sopore Police took swift action to freeze the bank accounts belonging to the aforementioned accused individual. Upon examination, it was discovered that these bank accounts harbored a significant amount of illegally acquired wealth, with a total value of Rs. 1,25,06,377.10 (One Crore Twenty Five Lakhs Six Thousand Three Hundred Seventy Seven Rupees). Subsequently, the appropriate authorities ordered the freezing and attachment of these funds, initiating forfeiture proceedings in accordance with the provisions outlined in Chapter VA of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The competent authority in New Delhi was duly informed of the development.
The illicitly obtained wealth, in the form of a substantial bank balance, serves as clear evidence of the accused’s involvement in drug trafficking. This recent influx of wealth does not align with any legitimate sources of income associated with the individual in question.
It is crucial to highlight that the accused, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, has previously been implicated in other cases related to the NDPS Act, specifically FIR No. 337/2013 U/Ss. 8/22 of Police Station Parimpora, FIR No. 92/2020 U/Ss. 8/21, 22 & 29 of Police Station Ram Munshibagh Srinagar, and FIR No. 121/2015 U/Ss. 8/21 of Police Station Sumbal. The ongoing investigation into FIR No. 26 of 2023 U/Ss. 8/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bomai continues to make progress.
