Soon after the incident, a search operation was launched during which the body of the deceased was fished out from the canal.

“We received a call from Police Control Room Kathua (PCR) at 3:45pm that a boy has drowned in a canal here, after that we collected our equipment and reached at the scene.

“When we started the search operation to fish out the boy’s body we saw a surge in water levels in one side of the canal near Green belt park.

“When water level decreased we went in the canal to search for the boy but couldn’t find him as he was not there where he was bathing.

“Then our team felt that he could be in the canal near the green belt park and when our SDRF team searched there we found the deceased near the canal’s bank.

“We have tried to give him first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as there are chances  to save a person till their body remains cold and normal.

“But when locals told us that the boy drowned in the canal three hours ago then we felt he is dead.

“We tried to resuscitate him through CPR. The doctors can tell more but the boy is no more as he has lost his pulse.

“He was an army jawan and came here on a vacation. He was supposed to rejoin his duty tomorrow but sadly he met with this tragedy today” An SDRF personnel said.

Later, when the deceased’s body fished out from the canal then the Kathua police took his body to GMC Kathua for autopsy and which will be handed over to his family after medico-legal formalities.
