              Locals claim smart meters as scam in Jammu
Jammu: Some locals in Jammu on Saturday claimed that installed smart meters recently by the local authorities in households in Jammu is a scam.
“We combine the readings of traditional meters and smart meters of a consumer and then give it to the power department.

“I saw a woman consumer’s house who was only using a bulb & a fan but she got Rs 840000 electricity bill in a month.
“The woman electricity consumer used to get Rs 500-600 bill per month. We told her to complain about it in the company as how she is getting such high bills”, an employee of the power department said.
“We are working for the power department in Jammu and this boy checks the readings of the electricity meters and informs the department.
“If a consumer is getting increased bills it is only because of the department”, another employee said.
“We have been working for the department from several years and we don’t get our salaries on time. The department told us that they will pay our salaries on 5 July, but we are still waiting for them to pay our wage”, one of the employee of the power department said.
“They only give us excuses and they are not paying us our wages since many days”, he added.
