Jammu: A Special Police Officer (SPO) shot himself dead with his service rifle at Sanyal village of Hiranagar in Kathua on Monday.
According to the report, the victim identified as Avinash Sharma, a resident of the Sanyal village where he was posted two years ago and was doing his service, has shot himself dead with his service rifle, following which he died on the spot.

The deceased regularly used to leave for his duty at 11am-3pm from his residence and at around 2:30pm the deceased shot himself dead at the Sanyal Border police post, where he was posted.

After the incident a police team reached at the scene and took cognisance of the matter. They have sent the deceased’s body for autopsy to Sub District Hospital SDH Hiranagar and have seized the officer’s rifle.
The deceased’s family also reached at the site of incident and demanded a probe alleging that their son was well and was not facing any troubles in life to take such extreme step, the report added.
However, the family of the deceased has also demanded an investigation even if the victim commited suicide knowingly.
The Kathua police has registered a case regarding this matter under relevant sections of law and initiated a probe.
