Thief steals Cheques of Rs 4 lakh from Bank in Jammu

 

Jammu: In a shocking incident, a thief stole Cheques of Rs 4 lakh from Indian Bank  situated on Residency , Jammu and encashed them in his own name, yesterday.

As per report, the matter came to light when a man namely Ashwani Sharma stole cheques of Rs 4 lakh from the Indian bank and got them clear in his name from two different banks of Jammu and one from Delhi.

The fraud happened with Owner of J B Gupta & Co namely Jagbhushan Gupta, who lost his payment paid to him by local traders.

Mr. Jagbhushan Gupta, Owner J B Gupta & Co, said,” On 20th I called the Indian Bank officials that my cheques are not coming, but they told me to wait and money will be deposited in my account”.

“But on 21st Jan, when we coercively asked the bank officials they told me that our cheques have been stolen”, he said.

“On 23rd Jan, we asked our concerned parties from whom we were to receive the payment to provide us the cheques directly, but they informed us our cheques had been encashed “, he added.

“Then we contacted the Indian Bank officials and have registered an FIR against them at Residency Police station”, he said.

“The Bank told us that the culprit deposited the cheques in Canara Bank at Trikuta Nagar and his account is in Daryaganj, Delhi”, Mr Gupta said.

“We got to know that one cheque was encashed from Canara Bank in Delhi, but we were able to save one cheque of Rs 55,000 from him through ‘Indian Bank’ “, he added.

“How will traders community can work in Jammu, if cheques gets stolen from the bank. It is the negligence of the banks involved”, a local trader said.

“He asked me to give me another cheque as he didn’t received the payment, but I showed him my bank statement of Rs 2,99,676”, Rakesh Gupta said.
