34th National Road Safety month kick started in Jammu

Jammu: To build awareness about road safety and reduce road accidents, a two-month long 34th National Road Safety, 2023 awareness drive themed ‘Sadak Surakhsha Jeevan Raksha’ was today launched at main road Kullian, RS Pura, Jammu.

The two months long programme that commenced today is scheduled to culminate in February.

The NRSS-XXIX Transmission Ltd. organised the Road safety awareness session on the occasion of 34th Road Safety month.

As per the government data, Jammu and Kashmir reported 5,189 road accident incidents last year. In these, a total of 677 lost their lives and 7,152 people suffered injuries. Of the total accidents reported in until December 2022, 4,644 were non-fatal and 545 were fatal.

Every year road crashes result in loss of lakhs of lives and serious injuries to crores of people. In India itself about eighty thousand people are killed in road crashes every year which is thirteen percent of the total fatality all over the world. Man behind the wheel plays an important role in most of the crashes.
