Jammu, 15 November, 2022: Dengue fever is the biggest challenge at the moment in Jammu and rise in admissions is a matter of great concern, a top doctor in Jammu said on Tuesday.

Principal Government Medical Hospital and College Bakshi Nagar Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudhan , interacting with the media said that dengue positivity is showing an upward trend.

She said with enhanced testing, the number of positive cases is also increasing and dengue is a challenge at the moment in Jammu.

“I am discussing this dengue epidemic which broke out in Jammu with our Pediatrician Mr Sham Saini  and according to the data that we have there are 764 adults which have been admitted here in GMC and 116 patients were admitted in Pediatric Hospital ward. Our two wards ‘Department of General Medicine’ and Dept. of Pediatrics are well active in handling dengue cases”, she said.

She further said that the dengue  transmission began from Jammu’s Janipur, Palora, Sarwal areas and eventually these areas became its epicenter.

“The better way to keep ourselves away from dengue is to prevent mosquitoes from accessing egg-laying habitats by environmental management and modification, disposing of solid waste properly and removing artificial man-made habitats that can hold water and covering, emptying and cleaning of domestic water storage containers on a weekly basis besides applying appropriate insecticides to water storage outdoor containers,” Dr Sudan said.

She added that now it is everybody  responsibility in Jammu to keep their surroundings dengue free.

“We saw cases here where all members of the family became dengue positive from just one mosquito’s bite, and some people in haste went outside Jammu because they got tested their patient at later stages of dengue fever and didnt came here. Every monsoon this dengue epidemic registers its presence here in Jammu cause of incessant rains the mosquitoes breeds in scores here.We want decline in dengue cases and we are working for that. The JMC also plays its part well in fighting dengue in Jammu”, she said.

Moreover, she said that yesterday eleven patients who were dengue positive got admitted in GMC. Adding she said that “Monsoon has favoured dengue that’s why we are witnessing rise in cases, But GMC is fully prepared for the dengue patients. Till now, we have dealt with 2200 dengue fever cases in Jammu and out of which 17 dengue casualties occurred so far”.
