Yesterday, several flash floods at the Amarnath Temple in Ganderbal sent waves of shock and tragedy across the nation which left many dead and many others missing.

The tragedy struck the lives of many pilgrims who are still gripped with shock and trauma.

Narrating the horrendous incident of Amarnath flash floods an eyewitness told that he used to organise langars for Amarnath pilgrims every year. He had come to organise feast for yatris and around 5pm when he was going downwards from the shrine spot , after 30 mins the flash floods came and swept the people.

Another eye-witness said, “I am one of the eye witnesses of the disaster which happended at the shrine yesterday, our tents got washed away, a girl lost her parents in flood in front of my eyes, horse stable alongwith their owners also dissappeared in flood. I travelled 16kms from Baltal to reach a safe place and whenever the incident flashes infront of my eyes I tremble in fear.”

Chetan from Maharashtra said, “I am feeling very upset to hear about this tragic incident which happended at the holy temple and I pray to God for deceased and their families and all other pilgrims who are going for pilgrimage.”

Since friday a massive rescue and search operations have been launched by the local administration with the aid of central govt to evacuate all yatris who are still stuck in flash floods.
