Katra which is known for the famous holy cave of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi was earlier also famous for its cleanliness but now the streets and roads in Katra are surrounded by piles of garbage. The J&K Government has not placed any dustbins on the road because of which people throw the garbage near the electric poles. In the area between Chintamani and Bus stand one can find numerous piles of garbage. Also, the famous fountain on which the government spent a huge amount and also it was a selfie point have now been converted to the dustbin.
Earlier the SDM Katra used to get the streets and roads cleaned at night because the area remains busy with the devotees but now the government has neglected the cleanliness. In the morning Municipality vans collect garbage but still, some garbage is left behind because of which the area remains under the foul smell of garbage. The residents of Katra elected the members of the Municipality with the hope that they will keep Katra clean but the elected members have broken their faith. The ignorance has raised the question of why the Municipality is not restarting the process of cleaning the roads at night like the early SDM?
Also, data revealed that in all the 13 wards of Katra no dustbin has been placed because of which the shopkeepers are compelled to throw the garbage on the road. The residents of Katra demand that the government should install public dustbins so that their area can remain clean.
