Families of police personnel who died a natural death during active duty today appealed to the government to appoint them in place of their fathers. The families are not getting benefits under SRO376. Our executive talked with them to know about the problems they are facing.
While talking to the media one protestor said “if a police or government official dies during their duty and if no other family member is appointed in any government sector then under section SRO376 a deserving person from the family of a late police officer will be appointed. In the past, a list of 150 such persons was issued but out of 150, only 40 people were appointed. As per the rule, everyone should be appointed at the same time. Today we have gathered here to know why only our cases are pending. Whenever we visit here no one comes to meet us. All the people who are appointed under the section are also from police families and we all are also from police families then why such discrimination against us”?
Another protestor said “in 2019 we met Chief Secretary sir. That time he assured us that he will look into the matter but till now he hasn’t provided us any assistance. We have also met former Governor Satya Pal Mallik and he also assured us that he will complete all the pending cases in 4 days but nothing changed”.
The third protestor said “during the reign of LG Murmu we tried to meet him but he didn’t get the appointment. At that time we sent about 50 representations to LG and CS but still didn’t get the appointment. When LG Manoj Sinha took charge a sigh of relief arose for us. We have contacted him on WhatsApp and he assured us that he will surely clear the matter but now his contact number is off. We request the J&K Administration to kindly appoint us”.
A frustrated protestor said ” I’ve lost both my parents and now my days are being spent in tension. I have visited the secretariat many times but every time they say that the CS sir has put the whole process on hold. I request CS to kindly appoint us to our jobs as there is no source of income”.
A few protestors also said “since the death of our fathers we are suffering as he was the only earning member of the family. The act was amended in 2017 during the coalition government of BJP and PDP but since then we are not appointed. It is very shameful that our fathers who without thinking about their families gave their lives for the country but after them, their children are being treated in such a way”.
