‘Welcome to city of wine shops’: Residents express their anger as wine shops reopen in Jammu

The people of Jammu have shown great anger over the reopening of wine shops in the city. The residents of New Plot complained about the building of wine shops in the residential areas around Krishna building, affecting the youth of the locality.

“There are 2 chemist shops on sides of the wine shop under construction. A lady Doctor practices here. Female patients visit the clinic regularly. It is a residential area with 3 Schools and 1 Temple nearby. It’s a shame to open wine shops here.” a chemist shop owner at New Plot said

“My kids would wake up and see wine shops. The girls living here will not feel comfortable. So many people are dying in lockdown but Government wants revenue. Would a Minister tolerate wine shop outside his house? It’s shameful and we will not abide by it.” He added

The shopkeeper condemned the action of the Administration. He further said that the wine shops should be opened in city outskirts.

“We will oppose this act by protesting. Jammu is city of Temples not city of wine shops. Open the shops in city outskirts. Those who want wine will reach there but don’t spoil our youth.” He said
