‘Strict action against people hurting religious sentiments’: Sukhnandan Choudhary on viral video

Former BJP Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary had an exclusive interview with JK Media executive Ashish Kohli. After a video against Hindu religion went viral on social media, Choudhary condemned the act and said that investigation should be held against such people.

Watch Exclusive interview

Q. Sukhnandan Ji, how did you feel after watching the video? Also, how hurt do you feel listening something against your religion?

The video got viral 2-3 days back. First I didn’t watch it but then our BDC Chairman showed it to me. Honestly, I felt hurt. I got to know this person is from Kashmir. See Hindu religion does have different castes but be it Rajput, Brahmin or any other, everyone walks together. I grew up in Madd constituency and every Muslim resident lived like he was our close one.

Every person I’ve ever known in our constituency picked Tiranga with me. I never thought such incidents would happen. Many Panches, Sarpanches and BDC members came to me and told about blocking National Highway the next day but I left it on the Administration. I told if Administration takes this lightly, we’ll handle it our way. Then we organised a Press Conference.

Q. What do you think should be done with such people who try to create differences between 2 religions?

I am no Advocate to talk about any punishment for anyone. But yes we are Dogras. Moreover, we are Hindus and this video did hurt our sentiments. I feel Police should arrest such people and carry out an investigation against them.

Q. We’ve seen these days it’s become easy to defame Hindu religion and Hindu Gods. Be it movies, serials, Shaheen Bagh or Farmers protest, many people raise slogans against Hindu religion. Why?

Hindu religion is the oldest religion. All religions like Sikhism and Islam came after it. We consider them as our brothers and that’s why we ignore such talks. But whatever was said in this video wasn’t bearable. 2-3 more such people and the situations will become worse.

Q. In this video RSS has been targeted particularly. Your take on that?

It isn’t any particular party or caste. It’s against Hindu religion which includes all parties and every single person of Rajouts, Brahmins, Scheduled caste, etc. Government should take strict measures against such people.
