Ganderbal, Jan 3: Traffic movement on the Srinagar–Leh National Highway was restored on Saturday after remaining suspended for four days due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass, officials said.
The highway was reopened following snow clearance operations carried out by the Border Roads Organisation. An official said Zojila Pass had received around one to two feet of snow earlier in the week, forcing authorities to close the road as a precautionary measure.
Snow clearance work began early Sunday morning after weather conditions improved. Once the stretch was declared safe, traffic was allowed to resume from the Kargil side, the official added.
Drivers have been advised to exercise caution while travelling on the highway, keeping in view slippery conditions and weather-related risks.
Meanwhile, according to the traffic police advisory, vehicular movement from the Sonamarg side towards Kargil will be permitted on Sunday after receiving clearance from the concerned road authorities.
