The Waqf Board’s decision to cancel the Salafi-Deobandi Ijtima at the historic Eidgah and Hazrat Ali (A.S.) Mosque is a welcome and timely step toward preserving peace and preventing the sectarian violence seen in the 1990s.

The Eidgah and the revered Minbar of the Prophet (PBUH), established by Shah-e-Hamdan, hold deep spiritual significance for the followers of Ahl-e-Tasawwuf. These sacred spaces symbolize unity, tradition, and spiritual revival.

However, it is disheartening to see the original name—Masjid Ali (A.S.)—reduced to “Aalii Masjid,” and gatherings titled Shaan-e-Abu Bakr (RA) being held in a mosque built to honor Moula Ali (A.S.). Such changes reflect a subtle but ongoing marginalization of his legacy.

We urge the Waqf Board to restore the mosque’s original name and preserve its spiritual heritage in honor of Imam Ali (A.S.)—a timeless symbol of justice and truth.
