JAMMU, DEC 22 : A major protest was held by depositors of State Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (SCARD) at Indira Chowk in Jammu on Tuesday, leading to the complete blockage of the busy road. The demonstrators alleged that the bank has failed to return their deposited money despite the passage of nearly nine months.
The aggrieved depositors said they had invested their hard-earned savings in SCARD Bank, but the bank has been repeatedly delaying repayments, citing audit-related issues as an excuse. Protesters accused the bank of committing a scam amounting to nearly ₹200 crore.
Expressing distress, the depositors said they are facing severe financial hardships as the bank is refusing to release their funds. They added that many families are struggling due to the prolonged delay.
The protesters were planning to march towards the Civil Secretariat to press their demands, but police stopped them at Indira Chowk, preventing the march from moving forward.
The depositors have warned the government that if their money is not returned soon, they will intensify their agitation and launch a larger movement in the coming days.
