Major Singh, a government cleaner who had been appointed in October 2019 dumped trash on the main road of Nai Basti today. According to him, he has received his salary since 14 months.
“I was appointed in October, 2019 with a basic pay of 6700. I’ve been sincerely working every day since then but haven’t received my salary from past 14 months. I wrote application way back. Health Minister and Municipal Commissioner himself has marked it. Still, they took no step. Instead told me there are no orders about my appointment. My work is collect waste from houses but today I’m forced to throw it on the road. If no action is taken soon, I’ll burn myself on this road.” said Major Singh
The residents and shopkeepers of Nai Basti area came in support of Major Singh and appealed the Administration to provide him justice. They also questioned Government’s ability to pay it’s workers their deserved amount.
“We all have noticed that this man has been working sincerely since the very beginning of this job. Still if he’s not getting what he deserves, it’s administration’s fault. Why do they put people on job when they have no money to pay? He’s given his security amount of Rs. 40,000 and we too pay 200 per month for cleanliness. If a man is in this stage where he has to feed his family and has no money inspite of working he would surely suicide! The Administration should look upon this matter.” said the Chairman of Nai Basti Market
“The concerned Department should make a list of how many cleaners are currently working in the area and how many have received their salaries. Is the Administration so broke that they cannot pay their employees? And if so why do they give them jobs?” added a resident
