In the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar, introduced “The Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025” (L.A. Bill No. 5 of 2025).

The proposed legislation seeks to amend the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, with the objective of strengthening grassroots democracy and improving the functioning of local self-governance institutions across the Union Territory.

Officials said the bill has already been published in the Official Gazette, marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in rural governance.

The amendment aims to streamline administrative procedures, empower elected Panchayati Raj representatives, and align J&K’s rural governance framework with modern democratic standards.
