Following in the footsteps of her husband Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, who laid down his life in Pulwama, Nitika Kaul on Saturday donned the Army uniform with commander of the Army”s northern command Lt Gen Y K Joshi piping stars on her shoulders at a ceremony held at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The PRO Udhampur, Ministry of Defence shared the brief video on its official Twitter handle, drawing spontaneous praises for Kaul and the Army.
“#MajVibhutiShankarDhoundiyal, made the Supreme Sacrifice at #Pulwama in 2019, was awarded SC (P). Today his wife @Nitikakaul dons #IndianArmy uniform; paying him a befitting tribute. A proud moment for her as Lt Gen Y K Joshi, #ArmyCdrNC himself pips the Stars on her shoulders!,” the PRO Udhampur wrote on twitter.
Major Dhoundiyal laid down his life fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir”s Pulwama and was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) for his sacrifice for the nation.
“You know why this is important because the Army never leaves its families alone even if the soldier is not there. For him to be there and support a veer nari who was married to a brother officer & now adorns the uniform herself, speaks volume about the Army Values & Code of conduct,” a netizen Swapnil Pandey, who was among thousands who viewed the tweet, said.
Several others also praised Kaul and one of them wrote “…what a befitting tribute to the late husband. Truly inspirational story.”

‘Strict action against people hurting religious sentiments’: Sukhnandan Choudhary on viral video
Former BJP Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary had an exclusive interview with JK Media executive Ashish Kohli. After a video against Hindu religion went viral on social media, Choudhary condemned the act and said that investigation should be held against such people.
Watch Exclusive interview
Q. Sukhnandan Ji, how did you feel after watching the video? Also, how hurt do you feel listening something against your religion?
The video got viral 2-3 days back. First I didn’t watch it but then our BDC Chairman showed it to me. Honestly, I felt hurt. I got to know this person is from Kashmir. See Hindu religion does have different castes but be it Rajput, Brahmin or any other, everyone walks together. I grew up in Madd constituency and every Muslim resident lived like he was our close one.
Every person I’ve ever known in our constituency picked Tiranga with me. I never thought such incidents would happen. Many Panches, Sarpanches and BDC members came to me and told about blocking National Highway the next day but I left it on the Administration. I told if Administration takes this lightly, we’ll handle it our way. Then we organised a Press Conference.
Q. What do you think should be done with such people who try to create differences between 2 religions?
I am no Advocate to talk about any punishment for anyone. But yes we are Dogras. Moreover, we are Hindus and this video did hurt our sentiments. I feel Police should arrest such people and carry out an investigation against them.
Q. We’ve seen these days it’s become easy to defame Hindu religion and Hindu Gods. Be it movies, serials, Shaheen Bagh or Farmers protest, many people raise slogans against Hindu religion. Why?
Hindu religion is the oldest religion. All religions like Sikhism and Islam came after it. We consider them as our brothers and that’s why we ignore such talks. But whatever was said in this video wasn’t bearable. 2-3 more such people and the situations will become worse.
Q. In this video RSS has been targeted particularly. Your take on that?
It isn’t any particular party or caste. It’s against Hindu religion which includes all parties and every single person of Rajouts, Brahmins, Scheduled caste, etc. Government should take strict measures against such people.
This time we will take Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) back, Ravinder Raina
BJP State President Ravinder Raina had an exclusive interview with JK Channel executive Mohinderjeet Singh. Raina spoke about the party on 24th June going to be attended by Mehbooba Mufti. He also slammed Pakistan and held it responsible for the dead Indians.
Q. Sir what would you say about Pakistan?
Pakistan is the reason for bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir over the last 40 years. It has always wanted J&K to be a graveyard. I wonder why some Leaders mourn over terrorists’ deaths rather than raising voices for our innocent people. Terrorism has killed so many people of J&K and other parts of India.
Those leaders who support Pakistan in such things are the enemies of J&K’s public.
Q. This time will article 370 be back or POK will be back?
Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) will be back. We will take it back. Pakistan has illegally occupied some parts if Kashmir be it Muzaffarabad, Neelam valley or the rest of the places, we are going to get them back in India.
Talking about article 370, it has become history now. People dreaming of getting it back should take rest. These are dreams that will never get fulfilled.
Q. Many leaders who often speak in favour of Pakistan have been invited to the Party while other leaders haven’t been. Your take?
Registered Political parties have been invited to the party. I’m invited, Professor Bheem Singh and some Former Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP and Congress too. BJP will be the voice of Dogras, the Hindus on that day. BJP has always stood for its public and will continue doing so.
Q. Can Jammu people expect Ravinder Raina’s reply to Mehbooba Mufti in the coming event?
I think almost everyone living in Jammu knows me now. I’m the same person who gave back answers to the leaders supporting Pakistan in assembly meetings held before.
