July 20, 2025 — Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, affectionately known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36 after spending nearly two decades in a coma.

The young royal had remained in a minimally conscious state since 2005, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a serious car accident while studying in the United Kingdom. Despite numerous treatments and long-term care efforts, his condition never significantly improved.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, in a moving message shared on X (formerly Twitter):

“O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter My Paradise… With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow, we mourn our beloved son.”

Prince Alwaleed had become a symbol of patience and hope for many in the Kingdom and across the Arab world. Periodic images and updates shared by his family over the years showed them continuing to care for him with devotion, as they held onto hope for a miracle.

His funeral is expected to be held in Riyadh, with dignitaries, royals, and citizens likely to pay their respects.

May Allah grant him peace and reward his family for their unwavering love and faith.
