The indefinite Chain Dharna kick started on Thursday, 27 December 2018, by the S. O. S. International – An Organization for PoK Displaced Persons today entered its 4th day. V. K. Datta, Dharam Vir Gupta, Pt. Amar Nath, Aman Sharma, Ankur Sharma & Balwan Singh sat on Chain dharna at S. O. S. International office at Bakshi Nagar, Jammu.
V. K. Datta levelled serious charges against the successive governments for discrimination meted out to the PoK DP community by not giving them the rights to live in a dignified way.
“The BJP has betrayed us the most and the discrimination evinced by the central government with our displaced community has compelled us to teach a lesson to the party in the forthcoming assembly & parliament elections by ensuring their defeat,” he added.
Datta said that those sitting at the helm of affairs today and teaching human values should first see themselves, how they have violated our human rights for the last more than 7 decades, with more than 3 generations facing the heat, and living in inhumane conditions.
“More than 80% people are living below poverty line and constrained to live hand to mouth and the government never talked about the welfare of this community.
Those who clamour themselves to be champions of people always talk and implement about the Kashmir centric policies and take extra care for their illegitimate requirements.” He warned the government not to check the patience of this community and ultimately compel them to take drastic action by keeping fast-unto-death/self immolation.”
“It is high time the government accedes to our legitimate demands within the frame work of constitution of India and the State of J&K,” he added.
The Chain Dharna was launched over main key issues related to PoK DPs, including implementation of PoK DPs package passed by NC-Congress Cabinet in 2014 in toto, implementation of uniform policy for all the migrants/displaced communities including PoK DPs, establishment of corridors for PoK DPs to visit their religious places & shrines located in PoK, restoration of 1/3rd i.e. 8 seats lying vacant for PoK areas in Legislative Assembly, inclusion of 5300 DPs families living outside the J&K State in the ambit of package for PoK DPs and return of cash deposits of PoK DPs lying in the J&K Bank, Mirpur Branch.
