New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday left for a three-day visit to South Africa to attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, saying he will present India’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

This is the first time a G20 Summit is being hosted on the African continent.

Modi said he will join discussions on key global challenges and meet several world leaders on the sidelines. He will also take part in the sixth IBSA Summit.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said India’s approach at the summit will reflect its belief in global unity and collective progress.

Modi is visiting South Africa from November 22–23 at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The summit’s theme, Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability, builds on the outcomes of the previous G20 meetings in New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro. The Ministry of External Affairs said the Prime Minister is expected to speak in all three summit sessions, which will cover inclusive growth, climate challenges, disaster risk reduction, energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and artificial intelligence.

The African Union became a permanent G20 member during India’s presidency in 2023.

During the visit, Modi will also interact with the large Indian diaspora community in South Africa.
