Mohammad Riyaz, a resident of Poonch and a daily wager in PhE Department, Jammu committed suicide in the office today. He was a father to 5 kids and had wife, brother and parents at home. According to his colleagues, Riyaz was under financial pressure due to non received salary since months.
One of his college said “It’s not a suicide, it’s a murder! This is what the Government is doing with daily wagers since last 20 years. Riyaz was financially weak. He couldn’t bare the fact that he had served the Government for 20 years and still wasn’t a permanent employee. 6700 was his wage and he didn’t get it since months. Daily expenditures couldn’t be handled. Government wants to get its job done free of cost. Sometimes our order gets canceled, sometimes SRO.”
“BJP Government promised to make 60,000 daily wagers permanent but didn’t raise the issue even after protesting in their power. We request the Administration to give the family a compensation of 10 Lakh rupees, Riyaz’s wife a government job and free education to his kids till 12th class.” He added
Riyaz’s brother burst into tears after seeing his demised brother. He just asked for his brother’s life back.
“No one can imagine the hardships he was facing. No salary and still was feeding his family. We don’t want anything from the Government. Not their money, not their jobs but only my brother’s life. Can they return it? (cries).”
