Pakeeza Qureshi, a resident of Handwara, Kashmir won her second gold medal in Kudo and got selected for Dubai International. In her life interview with JK NewsPoint, Pakeeza talked about the sport, her aims and her journey.
Q. Give us a gist of Kudo. And how do you feel after being selected for the international level?
Kudo is like martial arts which teaches ur self defence, kicking and punching. I practiced Kudo while studying in School. Different techniques are used for different attacks. I feel happy to be selected for Dubai International. It gives me a chance to prove myself and make my Nation proud.
Q. How much do you think Kudo is important for girls?
We live in a society where girls aren’t safe. Learning Kudo will make you self defence. I think it will be easy to smash the person who’s troubling you (laughs). Of course, it will make a positive difference in everyone’s life and I’ll be happy to contribute in it.
Q. How has your journey been so far? Who all have supported you?
My journey so far has been great. I study in Army Goodwill School in Handwara. I used to practice for hours to make my muscles comfortable for the sport. All the people I’ve met in my life have been supportive. My School staff always appreciated my efforts and my will to do something like this. No words would be enough to thank my Mother who’s been my biggest supporter. I won a gold medal in Mumbai during the Akshay Kumar Tournament and another one in Hyderabad. Rest, I’ve won many medals at the state level.
Q. What are your future plans?
In future I would like to continue being a sportsperson which I already am. Also, joining NDA would make me happy. It all requires support from the Government and people.
