‘Besharam Rang’ row: CBFC asks ‘Pathaan’ makers to make changes in film, songs before theatrical release

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has advised makers of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film ‘Pathan’ to implement certain changes in the film, including in its songs, and submit a revised version, chairperson Prasoon Joshi has said.

The film recently reached the CBFC examination committee for certification and went through the due and thorough examination process as per the board’s guidelines.

Helmed by Siddharth Anand ‘Pathaan’ which also stars John Abraham is scheduled for theatrical release in January 2023, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
One of its songs ‘Besharam Rang’ courted controversy over the orange-coloured bikini sported by Deepika Padukone.

CBFC chairperson, Prasoon Joshi said, “Pathaan went through the due and through examining process as per the CBFC guidelines. The committee has guided the makers to implement the advised changes in the film including the songs and submit the revised version prior to theatrical release.

Joshi said that “CBFC is always committed to find the right balance between creative expression and sensibility of the audience and believe that we can always find solution through meaningful dialogue between all stakeholders.”

“Whilst the process is getting duly followed and implemented I must reiterate that our culture and faith is glorious, intricate and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia which takes the focus away from the real and the true. And like I have said earlier as well, that the trust between creators and audience is most important to protect and the creators should keep working towards it.”

The film’s track ‘Besharam Rang’ dropped online on December 12, and soon it became the talk of the town. While several liked the peppy track, there were also some who found the song objectionable over the use of saffron and green costumes. A slew of activists in Indore even staged a protest and set effigies of Deepika and Shah Rukh on fire.

Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra speaking to mediapersons a couple of days after the release of the track ‘Besharam Rang’ had objected to the use of saffron costumes in the song. He said the film contained some objectionable scenes, and threatened to ban Pathaan in Madhya Pradesh if those shots are not replaced.

“The costumes in the song at first glance are objectionable. It is clearly visible that the song of the film ‘Pathaan’ has been shot with a dirty mindset.”
Meanwhile, Yash Raj Films recently released the second song of the film ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan,’ which received massive responses from the fans.

Jammu gunfight: Search ops intensified to trace ‘missing’ truck driver

A day after four terrorists were killed in a gunfight, police on Thursday launched search operations in several areas, including at the general bus stand and railway station, to trace the truck driver who fled from the spot before the gunfight started.

The gunfight broke out between the terrorists and security forces after a truck loaded with husk was intercepted near Tawi Bridge along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Wednesday morning, while the vehicle was on its way to Kashmir.

The truck driver fled the scene taking advantage of dense fog before the gunfight started, a police official said, adding search operations and checking of vehicles were intensified to trace him.

Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned Bajalta forest, about seven km from the scene of the gunfight, and carried out a thorough search operation, the official said, adding the operation is still underway and further details are awaited.

Government forces were also seen checking the identity cards of commuters at bus stands and Jammu railway station. Besides this, several checkpoints have also come up at various places in the city and along the highway including Indira Chowk.

Immediately after the gunfight, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh said the search is being done at bus stands, railway stations and marketplaces, while all checkpoints have also been alerted to arrest the fleeing truck driver.

“The number plate of the truck is fake. The engine and chassis number has also been tampered and the help of forensic teams will be sought in this regard,” he had said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition including seven AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, three pistols, 14 grenades and around 50,000 were recovered from the possession of the terrorists whose identity and group affiliation are awaited, reads the report.

The officials said sniffer dogs were also pressed into service and efforts are on to nab the driver and also to identify the owner of the truck.

Severe Cold Freezes life in Kashmir, as Water Crisis increases

     Kashmir, December 29, 2022

Just like the famous line, ‘water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink’, in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem, ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, water is available everywhere in Kashmir but is suspended in the form of snow, which inturn congeals life everywhere.

Kashmir is freezing and this has resulted in severe water crisis in parts of city  and villages of the valley. Frozen taps and overground water pipes are forcing the local residents to travel long distances in search of potable water.

Plummeting temperature is leading to the freezing of lakes, water supply lines, taps, water tanks, and motors.

The worst affected are the people living in the villages of Kashmir region, where the temperature goes downs to sub-zero levels in the night. In many districts of the valley, the temperature was recorded -12 and -10 degree Celsius respectively.

The people who lives in hinterlands of the region and who are mostly farmers and cattle rearers have been forced to trek the snow-bound treacherous terrain in groups in search of water. According to reports, they have been boiling snow to get water for daily use.

The officials insist that there is no shortage of water but the problem is arising due to the freezing of water supply lines. They say the supply lines are jammed at some places due to sub-zero temperature.

The water shortage has become a global concern. With each passing year, the level of drinking water in the world is continuously decreasing due to the effects of dry weather, indiscriminate cutting of trees, environmental pollution, and population increase, according to experts.

Commenting on Kashmir based politicans and Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’  Bajrangi said that after Sidhra terrorist encounter he has not seen anyone on social media giving out any statement on yesterday’s Sidhra attack.

“Some Kashmir based leaders have not uttered a single word against Pak based terrorists gunned by our Police and Army in Sidhra yesterday. They support China and are supporting Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi which is sham as there is no need to unify India as it is already a union and from the very begining J&K have always been an integral part of India, so what’s there to unite or join. They are only fooling people”, he added.

Bharat Jodo Yatra: Rahul Gandhi Violated Security Guidelines, Says CRPF In Its Reply To MHA

A day after Congress wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah alleging breaches in the security of Rahul Gandhi, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said the Congress leader violated security guidelines on 113 occasions since 2020 including in the Delhi leg of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The force has also said that it would be taking up this matter separately.

The CRPF’s reply was sent late at night on Wednesday after the Congress shot off a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah alleging that the security of its leader Rahul Gandhi was compromised during Bharat Jodo Yatra in the national capital and the accusing it of “completely” failing to control the surging crowd and maintaining a perimeter around the Z+ category protectee.

“It is pointed out that on several occasions violations of laid down guidelines on the part of Shri Rahul Gandhi have been observed and this fact has been communicated to him from time to time,” sources mentioned the points in reply by CRPF to Congress National General Secretary KC Venugopal.

“For instance, since 2020, there have been 113 violations observed and duly communicated. It may further be mentioned that during the Delhi leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra, the protectee has violated security guidelines and CRPF will be taking up this matter separately.”

The force said, “the security arrangements have been fully made for Mr Rahul Gandhi as per the guidelines”.

“It may be pointed out that during visits of the protectee the required security arrangements are made by the CRPF in coordination with state police and security agencies as per guidelines.

“Advisories based on threat assessment have been issued by the MHA to all stakeholders concerned including the state governments. Advance Security Liaison (ASL) is also undertaken for every visit,” said the CRPF.

The Delhi leg of Bharat Jodo Padyatra for December 23, 2022, ASL involving all stakeholders was conducted on December 22, 2022, said the CRPF, adding “all security guidelines have been strictly followed and Delhi Police has informed that sufficient deployment of security personnel was made”.
