No plan to return to Congress says Ghulam Nabi Azad

Amid speculations on former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s return to the party, the senior politician and chief of the newly-formed Democratic Progressive Azad Party on Friday dispelled such rumours and said there is no intention to return to a party with which he had snapped his 52-year-old association earlier this year.

Azad said reports suggesting his return to the grand old party are planted by some leaders with vested interest and there was no truth in them.

“I am shocked to see the story filed by ANI correspondent about my rejoining in congress party. Unfortunately such stories are being planted by a section of leaders in the congress party right now and are doing this just to demoralise my leaders and supporters”, tweets Ghulam Nabi Azad

“I dont have any ill will against congress party and its leadership, however I request them to tell these habitual story planters to refrain from doing so. Once again I would like to insist that this story is completely baseless”, tweets Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The General Administration Department (GAD) on Friday issued a list of holidays for the calendar year 2023.

Every year, a list of public holidays is released for Jammu and Kashmir. Check the holiday calendar of 2023 below.

MHA orders promotion of IPS officers

Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on Friday ordered promotion of 35 Indian Police Officers of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.

As per the order, the Ministry ordered promotion of 20 IPS to the DIGP rank (Level 13-A in the pay matrix), which includes Imtiaz Ismail Parray of AGMUT of 2009 batch, with effect from January 1, 2023.

Among the others promoted are; Monika Bhardwaj (AGMUT:2009), Dr. A Koan (AGMUT:2009), Gaurav Sharma (AGMUT:2009), R. Sathiyasundram (AGMUT:2009), Dr. Ashok Malik (AGMUT:2009), Asif Md. Ali (AGMUT:2009), Pramod Singh Kushwah (AGMUT:2009), Ami Roy (AGMUT:2009), Mangesh Kashyap (AGMUT:2009), Shivendra Kant Tiwari (AGMUT:2009), Umesh Kumar (AGMUT:2009) and H. Ramthlengliana (AGMUT:2009).

The Ministry has also granted Proforma Promotion in the DIGP Grade (Level 13-A in the pay matrix) to seven other IPS officers presently posted on Central Deputation.

Accordingly, the Ministry in a separate order promoted 18 IPS officers of AGMUT 2010 batch to Selection Grade (LEVEL-13 in the pay-scale matrix) with effect from January 1, 2023, which includes incumbent SSP Baramulla Rayees Mohammad Bhat.

Bhat has been promoted alongside names of Benita Mary Jaiker (AGMUT:2010), Shweta Chauhan (AGMUT:2010), Amit Sharma (AGMUT:2010), Sagar Singh Kalsi (AGMUT:2010),Rajendra Prasad Meena (AGMUT:2010), Patil Shridhar Daulu (AGMUT:2010), Esha Pandey (AGMUT:2010), Brijendra Kumar Yadav (AGMUT:2010), Chandan Chowdhary (AGMUT:2010), Rajiv Ranjan Singh (AGMUT:2010), Sanjay Bhatia (AGMUT:2010), Dinesh Kumar Gupta (AGMUT:2010), Varsha Sharma (AGMUT:2010) and Rakesh Kumar (AGMUT:2010).

“Further, Dr. Esha Singhal, IPS (AGMUT:2010), Rajiv Omprakash Pandey, IPS (AGMUT:2010) and Santosh Kumar Meena, IPS (AGMUT:2010), presently posted on central deputation are hereby granted proforma promotion in the selection grade (LEVEL-13 in the pay-scale matrix) with effect from 01-01-2023 and on actual basis with effect from the date of assumption of charge of their immediate junior in the cadre”, reads the order. Authorities issue avalanche alert in J-K

Authorities have issued an avalanche alert in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh and have asked people to avoid going to higher reaches.

The alert has been issued for the districts of Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Ramban, and Kargil.

“Avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2500 metres over Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Ramban and Kargil in next 24 hours. People are advised to avoid visiting higher reaches,” they said.

Indian Army saves pregnant woman’s life, evacuates her amid heavy snow in J&K

 The Indian Army on the night of 29 Dec 2022 conducted an emergency evacuation of a pregnant woman Mrs Nassem Kham w/o Mr Mohd Rafiq Khan from Damni village, in Nunwani Panchayat of Kalaroos Block to the primary health care (PHC) centre in Kalaroos amid heavy snowfall. At 8.30 pm, the Indian Army received a distress call from Asha Worker in Danmi requesting urgent medical assistance for a pregnant lady who was in critical condition. Due to heavy snowfall, roads were blocked completely and a civil ambulance couldn’t reach. Realising the criticality of the situation, the medical & rescue team from Kalaroos COB was immediately rushed to the location and the patient was safely evacuated to the Kalaroos hospital where she gave birth to a baby girl.

Soon after the birth of the baby girl, the woman developed some complications for which she needed to be evacuated immediately to SDH Kupwara for surgery. As the Army team was already back to camp and the road was still blocked due to snowfall, a doctor at PHC called up the Army for help.

The same Army team from Kalaroos camp was again sent to Kalaroos PHC with a vehicle and the lady was shifted to SDH Kupwara safely in the night itself.  The family and doctors expressed their gratitude to the Army for their swift action and timely assistance.

Srinagar, Dec 30: The authorities in North Kashmir on Friday said only 4×4 vehicles and vehicles with anti-skid chains will be allowed to move towards Gulmarg and vice-verse after snowfall made the road slippery.

Sub divisional magistrate, Gulmarg issued an order aimed to prevent accidents and avoid any inconvenience to commuters.

“To prevent accidents and long lasting traffic jams due to slippery road, which puts the commuters to much inconvenience, only 4×4 vehicles and those with anti skid chains shall be allowed from Tangmarg to Gulmarg and vice versa till the thawing of the ice from the road,” it said.

J&K: One dead, seven Injured in road accident

A woman tourist died and seven other persons were injured in a road accident near Zig Post in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Report said that a vehicle coming from Jammu towards Srinagar rolled down into a deep gorge near Zig Post.

He said in the incident a tourist from UP died, while 7 others were injured and they were shifted to Qazigund and Verinag hospitals.

He identified the tourist as Sheeba Iraqi wife of Atuqullah of Lucknow UP.

J&K: Massive Fire Damages 13 Houses, 10 Shops

At least ten residential houses and some shops were damaged in a devastating fire incident that erupted at Dangerpora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday, officials said.

A leading fireman identified as Arshed Ahmad Hurrah was also injured in the operation who has been hospitalized for treatment where his condition is stated to be stable.

The fire broke out at the heavily congested Dangerpora area in a house during the peak night hours around 2:58 am and engulfed nearby houses within no time, Joint Director Kashmir Region B A Shah said.

About 10 houses, mostly upper stories, and some shops were damaged in the fire incident, he said.

He said initially fire tenders were rushed from the nearby Anantnag Lal Chowk station. However, after seeing the velocity of the fire more fire tenders were rushed from the Sarnal on K P road, Mattan, Bijbehara and Achabal stations to douse the leaping flames.
Shah said the fire spread like a “wild fire” in the congested area as there happened to be several Gas cylinder blasts during the fire fighting operation that caused the huge damage to the property.

He said it could have been a major disaster and at least 200 horses of the Dangerpora area would have been gutted in the fire incident if water resources could not have been present from a living stream in the area.

The official praised the fire fighters for their marvelous job who saved the human lives and property during the operation despite it was snowing at the time.

Was Rishabh Pant Overspeeding? CCTV footage viral

Star India cricketer, Rishabh Pant suffered a freaky accident on early Friday morning suffered severe injuries as his car collided with a divider near Roorkee. According to the police, the cricketer dozed off while driving and as a result, he lost his control and the BMW car crashed into the divider.

The DGP of Uttarakhand Police, Ashok Kumar, said that the cricketer was alone in the car and had to break the window to escape the burning vehicle. Pant’s car met with an accident between Manglaur and Narsan in Haridwar district.

The CCTV footage of the accident is going viral on social media and in the hazy video, it can be seen that Pant driving the car crashed into the divider before it caught fire.

According to Dr. Sushil Nagar, Rishabh has suffered wounds on his forehead and left eye and there has been a ligament tear at his left knee as well and abrasions at his back. As per X-ray reports there are no fractures nor any burn areas on his body.

Meanwhile, the Indian team that takes on Sri Lanka in a white-ball series was announced a couple of days back and Rishabh Pant’s omission from the T20I and ODI squad became a talking point. He has been a serial match-winner for the country in Test cricket but has not lived up to the expectations in the white-ball format.

J&K Youth Dies In Road Accident

A Kashmiri J&K Youth was killed while another was critically injured in Punjab road accident.

The deceased have been identified as Ovais Aijaz residents of Shurat Jagir, Kulgam.

As per reports, Kashmiri J&K Youth Ovais Aijaz died in Punjab Road Accident. While another one- Basit Rafiq is critical and has been admitted to the hospital in Batala Gurdaspur. Both are residents of Shurat Jagir, Kulgam.
